Dana White has a message for 'idiots' who don't like UFC interim titles

Tom Taylor - April 17, 2019

The UFC has been crowning a lot of interim champions of late. In fact, it crowned two new interim champions at UFC 236 last weekend, as Dustin Poirier defeated Max Holloway to win the interim lightweight title, and Israel Adesanya defeated Kelvin Gastelum to win the interim middleweight title. Unfortunately, these interim title belts often amount to little more than number one contender belts, guaranteeing the interim a champion a shot at the true, undisputed champion. Sometimes, they don’t even accomplish that — see the cases of Colby Covington and Tony Ferguson.

Dana White addresses critics of Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar fight

Tom Taylor - April 15, 2019

UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been angling for a super fight with former heavyweight champ and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar for some time. Not everybody, however, is a fan of this potential matchup. In fact, some fans outright hate the idea, adamant that Brock Lesnar doesn’t deserve a title shot, and that Daniel Cormier should instead defend his title against a more legitimate heavyweight contender.

Dana White reacts to Kelvin Gastelum vs Israel Adesanya from UFC 236

Christopher Taylor - April 15, 2019

Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya delivered one of the greatest fights in history at last night’s UFC 236 event in Atlanta according to President Dana White. ‘Stylebender’ and ‘KG’ went back and forth for the better portion of twenty-five minutes in what could only be described as an all out war.

Dana White shares plan for Max Holloway after UFC 236

Tom Taylor - April 14, 2019

At UFC 236, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway moved up to the lightweight division to battle Dustin Poirier for interim gold, bravely putting his 13-fight win-streak on the line. Unfortunately for Holloway and his ever-growing fanbase, this hike up to lightweight didn’t go as he planned. Though he put up a valiant fight, winning several rounds with his vintage, volume-based striking, he ultimately lost a decision to his bigger, stronger foe.

Dana White likes Israel Adesanya vs. Jon Jones matchup

Tom Taylor - April 14, 2019

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 236, undefeated Nigerian-born Kiwi Israel Adesanya captured the interim middleweight title with a thrilling decision defeat of Kelvin Gastelum. With this victory, Adesanya can now look forward to a title-unifying showdown with undisputed champion Robert Whittaker — but that’s not the only big fight on the horizon for him. Over the last few days, Israel Adesanya has been trading barbs with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. So much so that there is already some buzz for a potential fight between them.

Dana White gives grim update on Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar fight

Tom Taylor - April 12, 2019

Over the last few weeks, there has been ample reason to believe we might soon see Daniel Cormier defend the UFC heavyweight strap against former champ and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar. First, it was reported that the matchup could occur at UFC 241 this summer. Then, Lesnar surrendered his WWE title at WrestleMania 35, seemingly clearing a major hurdle blocking his move to the UFC. Speaking at the UFC’s Seasonal Press Conference on Friday afternoon, however, UFC President Dana White gave a grim update on this potential Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar fight.

One of the more popular shows the UFC has produced has been Dana White’s Lookin’ For a Fight series, in which White, Matt Serra, and Din Thomas travel the world visiting regional promotions and looking for the next fighter to sign to the UFC. In the most recent season, White used the series to find prospects that he could add to the Tuesday Night Contender Series as a way to give fighters their chance to earn a UFC contract. The Lookin’ For a Fight series has helped the UFC sign the likes of Jared Gordon, Bobby Moffett, Sage Northcutt, Mickey Gall, just to name a few.

Last Monday, former featherweight and lightweight UFC champion Conor McGregor tweeted out that he was calling it a career. However, not everyone is sold on that notion. That includes UFC President Dana White. McGregor has recently mentioned wanting his share in the UFC to compete in anything less than main event bouts. Obviously, this is a bit of an extreme idea.

Dana White puts an end to 165 lb. division talk

Tom Taylor - March 27, 2019

UFC President Dana White recently inked a new, seven-year deal with the Las Vegas based promotion. And he says that, so long as he’s with the company, the 165 lb. division that so many fans and fighters have been asking for is a definite no-go. ”Not in the next seven years, that I promise,” White said in a recent interview with Barstool (transcript via MMA Mania). “I’m here for seven more years, when I go they can make a 180, 165, 122, whatever they wanna do when I’m gone, they can do. It ain’t happening while I’m here. What’s the appeal in it?
