After fan backlash, Dana White says he will 'try to make' Poirier vs. Diaz the UFC 230 main event

Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018

Earlier this week, it was announced that UFC 230, which will go down on November 3 in New York City, will be headlined by a women’s flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks. To say the fan reaction to this news was negative would be an understatement. All over social media, fans shared their disappointment with this main event, many of whom suggested the card should have just been headlined by the Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz fight that is currently serving as the co-main event. Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan seemed to share this opinion, admitting that he doesn’t actually know how Sijara Eubanks is.

Dana White explains why he's opposed to introduction of a 165-pound division

Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018

Over the last few weeks, a seemingly endless list of fighters have called for the UFC to abolish the traditional 170-pound welterweight division and replace it with new 165-pound and 175-pound divisions. There was even buzz about the possibility of Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier battling for the inaugural 165-pound title in the UFC 230 main event this November 3. While this seems like a great idea in theory, however, UFC President Dana White isn’t interested. He explained why in a recent interview with ESPN.

UFC President Dana White explains why Conor McGregor is such a huge star

Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018

Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who will attempt to reclaim that latter title from Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 229 this Saturday, is far and away the biggest star in UFC history. But why is that? According to UFC President Dana White, there is a multitude of reasons. The simplest, though, is that Conor McGregor is a real fighter.

Dana White admits Conor McGregor gets away with more than other fighters: 'He's worth it'

Thomas Taylor - September 26, 2018

Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor is far and away the biggest star in MMA history. He’s been an absolute gold mine for the UFC, having headlined a great many of the promotion’s biggest pay-per-views. Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up this week, UFC President Dana White admitted that, because Conor McGregor is such a valuable asset to the UFC, he gets away with more than any of his peers would. You know, like throwing dollies through bus windows and injuring other fighters severely enough that they’re forced to withdraw from their fights.

YouTuber Logan Paul has been stirring up some rumours that he wants to fight in the UFC after his big payday in a boxing match against fellow YouTuber KSI. Paul was a wrestler in the state of Ohio, arguably one of the best wrestling states in the country. While he does have a wrestling background, UFC President Dana White doesn’t seem to adamant to let Paul fight in the UFC.

Coach refutes Dana White's negative comments about Francis Ngannou

Tom Taylor - September 12, 2018

After Francis Ngannou’s back-to-back decision losses to then UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis, UFC President Dana White accused the Cameroonian-French heavyweight contender of having an ego problem. “I can tell you that his ego absolutely did run away with him,” White said of Francis Ngannou in an interview with MMA Fighting. “The minute that happens to you in the fight game, you start to fall apart. I had some personal encounters with him, as did other people in the organization, and this guy’s ego was so out of control.”

Dana White assures that there are "a couple of press conferences" for UFC 229 in the works

Tom Taylor - September 10, 2018

UFC 229, which will be headlined by a blockbuster lightweight title fight between undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor, is now less than a month away. Surprisingly, however, the UFC has done very little in the way of promotion for this potentially massive October 6 fight card. Speaking to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter in the midst of last weekend’s UFC 228 festivities, UFC President Dana White assured that there are, in fact, a couple of UFC 229 press conferences coming, which we can of course expect to include both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

Tom Taylor - August 22, 2018

Though they’ve certainly butted heads a few times in the past, UFC President Dana White has never been short on compliments for former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Speaking on Fox News this week, White showered Conor McGregor with some new praise, comparing the Irish MMA star to legendary boxers Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali.

Dana White feels that Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm fight is his best work as a promoter

Tom Taylor - August 22, 2018

UFC President Dana White has promoted a lot of fights. Thousands. But which those countless fights does he feel he did the best job promoting? Apparently, Ronda Rousey’s famous UFC 193 title fight with Holly Holm, which marked the violent and decisive end of her seemingly unshakable title reign. Heading into this fight, very few people gave Holm, the massive underdog, a chance of defeating Rousey. White, however, feels his promotional savvy ultimately convinced people that Holm might just win. And of course, she did.

Dana White shares the estimated value of the UFC

Tom Taylor - August 20, 2018

If UFC President Dana White is to believed, the UFC is now worth a whopping $7 billion. Speaking to motivational speaker Tony Robbins, White explained that a big part of this spike in value is due to the promotion’s $1.5 billion deal with ESPN, who will soon begin broadcasting UFC events both on television and through the online streaming service ESPN+.

Dana White shuts down talk of Georges St-Pierre fighting the winner of Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Chris Taylor - August 18, 2018

According to UFC President Dana White, former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre (26-2 MMA) will not be fighting the winner of October’s highly anticipated Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor lightweight title fight. In a recent interview with “The BBC MMA Show“, the brash UFC boss explained that part of the reason why “GSP” received an immediate middleweight title shot against Michael Bisping at UFC 217 was due to the fact that St-Pierre’s contract promised a title defense should the Canadian prove victorious at Madison Square Garden.

Dana White dismisses talk of Nick Newell fighting in UFC, Newell still determined to prove he belongs

Tom Taylor - August 10, 2018

Earlier this summer, former World Series of Fighting standout Nick Newell got the opportunity to earn a UFC contract on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. Unfortunately for Newell and his throngs of fans, this opportunity didn’t go as he planned, as he lost a decision to his foe Alex Munoz. Speaking shortly after this season of the Contender Series wrapped up, White seemed to close the door on Newell ever fighting in the UFC. In his eyes, the Octagon is not a place for a congenital amputee.

Dana White on Georges St-Pierre's lightweight title talk: "pick a division"

Tom Taylor - August 8, 2018

Last week, at a press conference in Australia, former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre shared his interest in dropping down to lightweight to battle the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor‘s UFC 229 lightweight title fight (see St-Pierre’s prediction for the fight here). “I would be interested in that fight,” St-Pierre said. “That’s a win-win situation. It’s a legacy upgrade and it’s good money — it’s gonna be a big fight. Yeah. However, I fought at 170, I relinquished a title. I fought at 185, I relinquished a title. I don’t think UFC will let me fight for the title at 155. They will be afraid I relinquish and I left the division in ruins.

Dana White on Francis Ngannou's struggles: "I completely saw it coming"

Tom Taylor - August 8, 2018

Heading into his January heavyweight title fight with then champion Stipe Miocic, Francis Ngannou was easily one of the most hyped title challengers in UFC history. In the end, of course, this title shot did not go the way he planned, as he was soundly walloped by Miocic en route to a unanimous decision loss. From there, things went from bad to worse for Francis Ngannou. In his comeback fight — a collision with fellow knockout artist Derrick Lewis that was expected to be incredible — he unleashed almost no offense, and lost a decision in one of the most objectively terrible fights in UFC history.
