Dana White responds to reports of Nate Diaz UFC 227 comeback fight: Nothing is going on

Tom Taylor - May 3, 2018

Last week, reports surfaced suggesting that Nate Diaz was in talks with the UFC about a potential return to the cage at UFC 227 this August 4 in Los Angeles. These reports generated widespread excitement inside the MMA bubble. Unfortunately, UFC President Dana White has now poked holes in them, assuring that the UFC offers Diaz a fight every few months, and that there’s nothing in motion with respect to his fighting at UFC 227.

Dana White says Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov fight won't happen in Russia

Tom Taylor - April 30, 2018

One of the biggest possible fights in MMA at present is a showdown between new UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and troubled former champion Conor McGregor. When considering possible settings for this fight, one of the most compelling options is Moscow, in Nurmagomedov’s native Russia. This is a territory the UFC has not yet ventured into, and one McGregor and his team have previously expressed interest in exploring themselves.

Dana White on whether UFC will punish Conor McGregor: we’ll see what happens

Tom Taylor - April 30, 2018

Earlier this month, Conor McGregor flew to Brooklyn, New York, and ran amok on a terrible rampage. This rampage reached a chaotic crescendo when McGregor threw a dolly through the window of a shuttle bus that was carrying his arch rival Khabib Nurmagomedov and a number of other UFC 223 fighters. McGregor’s attack caused injuries to both Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa, who were ultimately forced out of their fights as a result. In the wake of this crazed attack, Conor McGregor was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief. He will be summoned back to New York this June 14 for his first court date. McGregor is also likely to experience some legal kickback from Borg, Chiesa, and anybody else who experienced damages as the result of his rampage.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk says Dana White was "a little bit disgusted" by scoring of Namajunas rematch

Tom Taylor - April 17, 2018

In November of 2017, long-time UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk succumbed to a first-round knockout dealt by unheralded challenger Rose Namajunas, surrendering her title as a result. Earlier this month, in the co-main event of UFC 223, Jedrzejczyk failed to reclaim that title, giving up a close decision to Namajunas in the pair’s anticipated rematch. While the judges awarded the decision to Namajunas in this rematch, however, Jedrzejczyk has repeatedly stated that she feels the fight should have been scored in her favor. Her main argument to this end is that she technically landed more strikes than her foe.

Dana White announces unprecedented stipulations for Nurmagomedov vs. Iaquinta UFC 223 title fight

Russell Sai - April 6, 2018

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any crazier for UFC 223, Dana White announced a unique stipulation for the lightweight title fight main event. Earlier today, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was “declared medically unfit to fight” and was pulled from the lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. After going through a short list of possible replacements, the UFC was able to put together Nurmagomedov vs. Al Iaquinta, as Iaquinta was originally scheduled to fight Paul Felder on the card. With Iaquinta weighing in earlier in the day at 155.2-pounds, initially, he was not going to eligible to win the lightweight title being 0.2-pounds over the 155-pound title fight limit.

Dana White issues statement on Conor McGregor's rampage in Brooklyn

Tom Taylor - April 5, 2018

On Thursday afternoon, Conor McGregor and his entourage showed up at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY—the host venue for Saturday’s UFC 223 card—and all hell broke loose. Even by McGregor standards, it was a terrible scene, as the Irishman and his cohorts went berserk, throwing garbage cans, chairs and more at the UFC 223 fighter bus, which was packed to the edges with the card’s fighter. According to multiple reports, McGregor’s attack left several passengers covered in glass, and UFC 223 fighter Michael Chiesa with a laceration on his head. Now, UFC boss Dana White has spoken up on the madness. As you can expect, he is furious. Dana White: "What happened today was criminal, disgusting and it makes me sick."

Dana White claims UFC is done trying to make Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov bout

Tom Taylor - April 2, 2018

Yesterday, we learned that Tony Ferguson had been forced out of his UFC 223 showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov with a freak leg injury. Though we all wanted to believe this news was an extremely elaborate April Fools joke, it turns out it wasn’t. It’s all very real. With this latest calamity, Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov have now been scheduled to fight a whopping four times to no avail. Four goddamn times they’ve signed contracts to scrap, and not once have they actually made it into the cage together… you can’t make this stuff up!

Dana White explains why Conor McGregor wasn't Khabib Nurmagomedov's replacement opponent

Tom Taylor - April 2, 2018

By this point, we’ve all woken up, pinched ourselves, and come to grips with the unfortunate reality that Tony Ferguson’s UFC 223 withdrawal was not an elaborate April Fools joke or a nightmare. The interim lightweight champ really has been forced out of the fight with a leg injury—a leg injury he sustained while he was walking, if you can believe that. The good news is that we get a solid consolation prize. Nurmagomedov will still fight on the card, taking on a beefed up version of UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway, who steps up on just six days notice. The two will battle for the undisputed lightweight title.

Kamaru Usman blames Dana White for backlash after '30 percent' comment

Tom Taylor - March 28, 2018

If you watched Kamaru Usman defeat Emil Meek at UFC St. Louis in January, you’ll probably recall his controversial post-fight interview, during which he claimed he’d fought (and won) with just 30 percent of his ability. Shortly after Usman made this remark, he was hit by a tidal wave of backlash—including a few critical comments from UFC President Dana White.

Super Fight Between Champions, Demetrious Johnson and TJ Dillashaw "not happening" According to Dana White

Drake Riggs - March 22, 2018

If we ever end up seeing UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson and UFC bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw squaring off inside the octagon, it apparently won’t be anytime too soon. Rumors were afloat for a while that Johnson and Dillashaw could have been seeing each other across the cage as soon as July for the big international fight week UFC 226 card. Johnson even eventually confirmed that negotiations were going down.

Tom Taylor - March 4, 2018

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 222, streaking featherweight contender Brian Ortega stepped into the cage with Frankie Edgar in a clear number-one contender fight. Despite the talent of his veteran foe, Ortega came through in the biggest way possible, putting Edgar down with a rocket-fuelled uppercut in the first round. It was the first time Edgar had ever been finished in his illustrious career.

After a long period of quiet, the anti-trust lawsuit levied against the UFC is once again trundling along. As expected, this ongoing legal battle is revealing some very information about the UFC, its decision makers, and their practices. One of the more interesting stories to emerge over the last few days came from UFC President Dana White, who essentially took responsibility for Conor McGregor‘s superstardom in a deposition. Rashad Evans Advises Tyron Woodley to Quit Wasting Energy on Qualms with Dana White

Drake Riggs - February 12, 2018

Before Jon Jones came and took over the light heavyweight division, the 205-pound UFC title went through a revolving door of champions. From 2007 to 2011, the title was never defended more than once and saw five title changes. Right in the middle of what some called “the golden age” where 205 was one of MMA’s greatest divisions, The Ultimate Fighter season 2 winner, ‘Suga’ Rashad Evans obtained some of that gold. Evans was undefeated at the time and was a large personality who felt he wasn’t quite getting what he deserved. Something Evans believes is similar to the situation of a certain champion today. Evans spoke about the comparison today with MMAFighting:

Dana White promises we'll never see "disgusting" Mario Yamasaki again

Tom Taylor - February 8, 2018

Last weekend, in the co-main event of the UFC’s return to Belem, Brazil’s Priscila Cachoeira was brutalized by the far more experienced Valentina Shevchenko en route to a second-round submission loss. In the wake of this brutal fight, there has been widespread criticism of referee Mario Yamasaki. In the eyes of many fans and pundits, the referee should have stopped the fight much earlier. UFC President Dana White was particularly critical of Yamasaki post-fight. Priscilla Cachoeira, you showed so much heart and toughness in that fight. I’m honored to have you fight in the UFC. Unfortunately the ref is there to protect you and Mario DID NOT do that. This isn’t his first disgusting performance in the octagon. Another unfortunate thing is that i can’t do anything about I️t only the Brazilian commission can and i am hoping after this scary, incompetent showing he hopefully will never set foot in that Octagon again. Strikes landed was 230-3.
