Daniel Cormier’s Plan to Throw Hands with Jones Even With a Possible Suspension
Sometimes the MMA gods smile upon us, other times they curse us. Jon Jones allegedly popped for performance enhancing drugs and is now entitled to his due process. If the worst of the worst happens, a domino effect of consequences crashes down upon himself, the UFC, and the light heavyweight division. Jon Jones could be suspended for as long as four years. This leaves Daniel Cormier in a bad position and he may run out of time before he gets to fight Jones one last time in the Octagon. That being said, Cormier may have thought up a clever way to still fight him.

“I think if all this stuff was to come back real, I think in about year or two, you’ll start seeing [Jon Jones] do some of the things he used to do. Like those grappling matches with Dan Henderson. Doing little things to try to make money because that money starts to wear out after a time. It’s very hard though, how do you let go of all the emotion that is tied to him and my rivalry? I don’t think I could [grapple with Jon Jones] because I think that, competitively, we would want to fight. It would be hard to just wrestle or hard to just grapple. Boxing? We would probably do that, of course I would box him. That’s just another way of fighting.” — Daniel Cormier on his Talk and Talker podcast.
If Conor McGregor can box Floyd Mayweather, it shouldn’t be far-fetched to see Daniel Cormier put on the gloves to have a bout with Jon Jones. That fight has opened a can of worms that may change everything. While a boxing match between Cormier and Jones may be unlikely, it’s just a testament to DC’s competitive spirit. Despite being on the losing end of their rivalry at 2-0, Cormier still wants to better himself and fight the only man to ever beat him.
