Daniel Cormier describes what he did with his UFC belts at home after losing to Jon Jones at UFC 214
If you saw Daniel Cormier in the Octagon after he fought and lost to Jon Jones at UFC 214, you know just how much the loss meant to him.
Cormier remained fairly quiet in the days immediately after the fight and was just getting over the fact that he was knocked out and finished for the first in his professional MMA career. Things took another wild turn a few weeks after UFC 214 as the news of Jones’ latest potential Anti-Doping Policy violation surfaced.
With Cormier’s KO loss to Jones now overturned by the California State Athletic Commission to a no-contest, Cormier has been reinstated as the UFC light heavyweight champion. However, if friends of Cormier are allowed into his house, it’s likely they won’t see any of his UFC championship belts around.
“I was pissed off, man,” Cormier said of his UFC 214 result on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour (transcribed by Dave Doyle for MMA Fighting). “I just couldn’t believe that that happened. You don’t understand me, you know? It’s like this thing, I guess it’s like a wrestling thing, you get so mad, you don’t think about the emotion and reaction, and then you regret it later. I would have regretted throwing those away. My wife wouldn’t let me.”
DC said that he had friends over at his house to watch his AKA teammate Luke Rockhold fight and also tuned into the controversial Canelo vs. Golvkin fight. Cormier said that he has a lot of his MMA career memorabilia on display. However, only his Strikeforce, King of the Cage, and XMMA titles were up and none of his UFC titles are anywhere to be seen.
Cormier explained that he had thrown his UFC belts in his closet out of his view as the result of UFC 214 still bothers him so much.
“I still haven’t put those back up,” Cormier said. “I tried to throw them away but my wife wouldn’t let me. So I just put them away in my closet. I’m still not at the point now where I can take all these belts out and face them every day.”
