Daniel Cormier fires back at Arthur Jones
Friday afternoon prior to the UFC 214 ceremonial weigh-ins, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s team was involved in a verbal spat with Arthur Jones, the eldest brother of former light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones.
Arthur Jones recalled the situation to MMAFighting, saying:
“They were like, ‘The real champ’ and all this other bullshit,” Arthur Jones said. “After a while, I got annoyed. I was like, ‘Yeah, the paper champ.’ We started jawing back and forth. They just walked away. It really wasn’t nothing. People try to make a big thing out of nothing.”
“I would have ragdolled all six of them — for the record,”
In addition, Arthur stated that had Cormier been with his team, he would have had no problem slapping the champ as well.
That didn’t sit too well with Cormier, who fired back in an interview with Megan Olivi for Fox Sports:
“Tomorrow I will beat Jon Jones… whatever way I want. I’ve trained so hard for this. I’ve been preparing for this since the moment I left that Octagon on January 3rd, 2015. I’m not playing around any more. It’s time to fight, all the fun and games, all the blowing kisses… it’s done. He’s got his fat brother in the stands, talking about I’m going to cry. He can sit his fat ass down because I’ll smack the shit out of him too.”
In regards to the fight, Cormier has no shortage of confidence, stating that he will dominate Jones when the two meet in the Octagon:
“I’m a much better fighter today than I was. People haven’t even seen all that I’m capable of in the Octagon. Tomorrow I put it all on display.”
“I dominate him. I literally go out there and I dominate him. If you don’t believe, then, just wait till tomorrow. You’ll see.”
