Daniel Cormier set to defend his UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 206 in Toronto
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will return to the Octagon to defend his title at UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada. The event is scheduled to take place on December 10. Cormier made his announcement on Wednesday night’s “UFC Tonight” show on FOX Sports 1.
Cormier is slated to face Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in another UFC light heavyweight title rematch. The two first met in the center of the Octagon at UFC 187 in May of 2015 where “DC” was able to submit Johnson by rear-naked choke in the third round, which earned Cormier the vacant UFC light heavyweight title after former champion Jon Jones was suspended after legal troubles with a hit-and-run car accident.

Cormier went on to defend his belt against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 in October 2015 in a close fight where “DC” was awarded a split decision after five rounds of battle. In Cormier’s latest fight, he fought former UFC middleweight kingpin, Anderson Silva on two days notice as the result of his UFC title fight against Jon Jones being scrapped from UFC 200 after Jones tested positive for banned substances. Cormier took a unanimous decision win over Silva at UFC 200 in July.
Johnson has also picked up three wins in a row since his championship title fight loss to Cormier. “Rumble” finished all three of his past opponent by knockout, taking out Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and Glover Teixeira.
