Daniel Cormier wants Jon Jones rematch, even if he’s on PEDs
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former UFC pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones have a very long and very public feud dating back several years. While the men have been booked to fight numerous times, they have only stepped into the Octagon once, where Jones emerged victorious. After their UFC 200 scrap in July fell through just 48 hours before the men were set to step into the Octagon, Jones was handed a one-year suspension, keeping him sidelined until July of 2017. With that being said, Cormier is still looking for a Jon Jones rematch.
He spoke on The Herd to discuss his desire for a rematch, regardless of whether or not Jones is on PEDs:
“Honestly, when that whole thing happened in July, I would have fought him two days later. It doesn’t matter. I just want to fight. I’m there to fight and because of our history and – I’m a competitor and I need to get back that. That means so much to me at my core that I’ve got to get it back. My life and career would not be okay if I had to walk away and not share the octagon again with that man.”
“I’d fight him… If that was the case before, then the guy that I’m gonna fight the next time is not gonna be the same guy I saw the first time because of USADA and the drug testing that we are under now… But yes, I would fight him [even if he were on PEDs]. It doesn’t matter. The competitor in me and my belief in my coaches and my skill, I have to get that back. I can’t live with it.”
Cormier of course was recently booked for another highly anticipated rematch, that one of course being against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson at UFC 206. Cormier unfortunately had to pull out of the fight on short notice after a knee injury left him sidelined.
With ‘DC’ targeting a spring return to the Octagon, only time will tell if he has the chance to avenge his 2015 loss to Jones.
