Daniel Cormier warns fighters against making the move to boxing
Throughout the course of 2017, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has continued to make headlines for his potential boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.
While the fight is certainly not finalized, McGregor’s side of the deal has been negotiated and finalized. Now, with a fight hinging on whether or not Floyd Mayweather agrees to a deal, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is looking to take the time to send a message to McGregor, and other fighters, looking to make the jump to Boxing.
He spoke to Fox Sports:
“Look, James Toney fought in the UFC and got beat,” Cormier said on a recent edition of UFC Tonight, per Damon Martin of FOX Sports.” “We had no problem showing that footage over and over again of James Toney getting beat by Randy Couture. These boxing promoters will constantly show video of the heavyweight champion of the world Stipe Miocic getting slept by Anthony Joshua or Jimi Manuwa. Come on, Jimi, getting slept by David Haye.”
“These dudes will get slept, and it’s going to be embarrassing.”
“[McGregor] can actually go and fight [Floyd] Mayweather and I’ve said it time and time again on this show, he will lose. The rest of these guys, they will get no money and they will also get slept.”
“So no, it is not good for the UFC. Conor, hats off to you, make your money but don’t get slept, which might happen to him.”
As he has stated numerous times before, McGregor is supremely confident ahead of the fight, informing media members and Bob Arum at a recent boxing match in New York that he will leave the entire boxing community stunned when he and Mayweather step into the ring together.
We will have to wait on a potential deal on Mayweather’s side in order to find out.
