Michael Bisping wants Daniel Cormier, realistically knows it won’t happen
UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is currently waiting in limbo to find out if former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will comply with his terms for their targeted fight. While the UFC announced that the fight would go down in 2017, Bisping recently informed St-Pierre that he will not wait until the former champ is ready to fight. Instead, Bisping informed St-Pierre that unless he is willing to fight in July, The Count will give the middleweight title shot to Yoel Romero.
Now, in an editorial piece for Champions.co, Michael Bisping revealed that he wants to fight light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, however he knows that realistically the fight will never materialize:
Last week, I saw Luke Rockhold calling out Fabricio Werdum, and I thought to myself, ‘You know, that’s not a bad idea.’ Listen, I’d love to face #DanielCormier and I think I’d do very well against him, to be honest. But, you’ve got to be realistic. The UFC aren’t going to let me do that or anyone else right now.
You know why people want to go up a weight division and try to take on the other champion? It’s because there’s no risk involved. If you lose, you’re still the champion of your weight class. If you pull it off, you’re a legend now, you’re a two-division champ. That’s the beauty in doing it, and of course, if you have a champion vs. champion match, it will do good business and net a big payday.
I’d have nothing to lose, and that’s why Tyron Woodley offered up his guns, because he won’t have anything to lose. The only thing he’d lose is brain cells, because I’d take his head clean off his shoulders. That said, I’ve got no interest in shadow-boxing for 25 minutes, so I’m going to have to take a pass on that. I said that in my tweet and I’ll reiterate it here: Tyron is the one texting me, ‘Let’s do a catch-weight at 180 pounds.’ He’s still not really even man enough to go up to 185.
Do you think we will ever see a champion vs. champion fight vs. Bisping & Cormier?
