Daniel Cormier believes his loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 241 was one of the biggest comebacks of 2019. Early on in the fight, Daniel Cormier was having a ton of success where many thought he won all three rounds. Yet, in the fourth-round, Miocic started to attack the body and ultimately earned a TKO win. It was a massive comeback that ‘DC’ says was because of a great adjustment from Miocic and his corner.

The date for this trilogy fight, however, is still a mystery. Speaking to MMA Junkie, Cormier shed a bit of light on the timeframe for this fight. He believes that, as the UFC’s calendar for the first quarter of 2020 is filling up, there might not be time for his tie-breaker with Miocic until at least June.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has decided to hang up the gloves and pursue a pro wrestling career with WWE. Daniel Cormier, his long-time training partner and another former UFC champ, is sad to see Velasquez go, but is simultaneously very happy for him. “It’s a sad day when Cain Velasquez retires. But I know that he is doing something that he loves,” Cormier told MMA Fighting recently. “I remember watching him at [WWE] Elimination Chamber and you can see that this was something that he could love, I am not sure he ever fell for something faster, well except for when he met [his wife] Michelle.”

The Kiwi star was able to defeat Al Iaquinta at UFC 243 in Melbourne, Australia to establish himself as one to watch at 155 pounds. The next natural step would be for him to face someone higher up in the rankings, but with Raging Al fighting down the rankings to face Hooker, a lot of fans believe Dan should be doing the very same thing.

The pair are tied 1-1 across two previous title fights, with Cormier winning the first encounter by first-round knockout, and Miocic winning the rematch, which occurred at UFC 241 in August, by fourth-round TKO.

From the sounds of it, new UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will be rematching Daniel Cormier in his next fight. That being said, it likely won’t happen this year. While Cormier has stated the December 14 UFC 245 card would be a good date for him, Miocic has divulged that he likely won’t be ready in time for that card. He says he’s currently dealing with some lingering eye issues.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPNESPN, Cormier said he will be returning to the Octagon for the final fight of his career. That final fight, according to Cormier, will be a trilogy fight against Stipe Miocic who won the heavyweight title back from Cormier with a fourth-round victory over Cormier at UFC 241.
