The history between the two is clear yet ugly all at the same time. Jones was the once ruler of the 205-pound division but due to his own doing, he no longer is able to compete as actively as we expected him to be doing so from 2015 to now.

Despite the fact that he ballooned up in size for this fight with Miocic, Cormier says he still plans to head south to defend the light heavyweight title before he retires in March.

Some fans have completely bought into the crossover feud and Lesnar’s immense marketability in the combat sports world. Others see it as a rehearsed and inauthentic ploy at a quick cash grab for a future pay-per-view card.

Last night, in the main event of WWE’s exciting Summerslam event in Brooklyn, NY, Brock Lesnar surrendered his universal title to Roman Reigns. In the eyes of many fans, this seemed like a necessary precursor for Lesnar’s much-discussed return to the UFC. If Lesnar does indeed return to the UFC, which seems like a certainty at this point, it will be to a heavyweight title shot opposite newly minted heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

Daniel Cormier’s first defense of the UFC heavyweight title is expected to pit him against former champion and WWE star Brock Lesnar. In order for this fight to happen, of course, Lesnar will have to serve the remainder of a USADA-administered suspension, and pass a battery of new drug tests.  So far, Lesnar’s drug testing regimen has gone off without a hitch (he’s already been tested three times). That said, the hulking former champion’s skeptics remain numerous, and Daniel Cormier seems to be among their numbers.

When UFC lightweight champion Daniel Cormier knocked out then heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, he became one of just two men in UFC history to wear gold in two divisions concurrently. The other is Conor McGregor, who held the UFC featherweight and lightweight titles simultaneously in 2016. Apparently, however, Conor McGregor still considers himself the only undisputed champ-champ. Speaking to TMZ this week, McGregor eluded to the fact that he does not consider Daniel Cormier a true two-division champion — perhaps because Cormier never actually captured the light heavyweight title from former champion Jon Jones.

The most lucrative fight on Daniel Cormier’s calendar is his planned heavyweight title fight with former champion Brock Lesnar, which is expected to occur sometime in the new year. Between now and then, however, Cormier plans to defend his light heavyweight title, most likely before the year is out. When it comes to opponents for his next light heavyweight title fight, there are three clear frontrunners. They are: Corey Anderson, Ilir Latifi and Anthony Smith — since Cormier is not interested in fighting Alexander Gustafsson.

While this fight is sure to be huge, many fans feel that Brock Lesnar should not be anywhere near a heavyweight title shot. Many of these same fans feel that the first shot at Cormier’s title should go to Stipe Miocic — the very many Cormier beat to win that title.

Daniel Cormier, who now owns the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight titles, plans to retire in March of 2019, when he turns 40. From the sounds of it, he’s going to be very busy between now and then. We know that Cormier plans to defend his heavyweight title against Brock Lesnar in early 2019. We also know that Cormier is willing to defend his light heavyweight title against Corey Anderson in the meantime, as Cormier accepted the rising contender’s callout on Twitter yesterday.

As it turns out, this win over Teixeira could be even bigger for Anderson than initially expected.

Earlier this week, UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier suggested that fighters like Anderson Silva and Jon Jones should not be mentioned when debating the greatest fighters in MMA history on the basis of the failed drug tests in their pasts. “Demetrious [Johnson], Georges St-Pierre, these guys have none of these bad things tied to their names and these are the guys I should share the conversation with,” Cormier said on Slip n’ Dip Podcast. “I’ve never had any negatives and I’ve never had to go in front of any commission and explain why my test came up messed up. That’s why I should be in the conversation because I’ve done things the correct way.”

When Daniel Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic to capture the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 226, he became one of just two fighters to hold UFC titles in two divisions at once, as he already owned the UFC light heavyweight belt at the time. The other is Conor McGregor. Daniel Cormier, who now owns the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight titles, recently stated that he’d like to squeeze in a light heavyweight title defense before he defends his heavyweight title against Brock Lesnar in the new year. Specifically, Cormier is interested in defending his light heavyweight belt against former champion and MMA legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Shogun, of course, is scheduled for a fight with the extremely dangerous Anthony Smith this weekend, yet Cormier didn’t mention Smith’s name. Initially, Smith was pretty disappointed with the way Cormier ignored him, but now, he feels as though Cormier has added to the stakes of his fight with Shogun

UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is a sought-after man. After being called out by Stipe Miocic, Yoel Romero, Anthony Smith, and more, he’s now been called out by surging light heavyweight talent Ilir Latifi. The Swedish behemoth made his callout of Cormier on Instagram over the weekend. He’s hoping to battle the champ when the UFC returns to New York City’s Madison Square Garden this November.

Alexander Gustafsson, who is currently the top contender in the UFC light heavyweight division, wasn’t particularly pleased when UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier moved up to heavyweight to battle divisional champion Stipe Miocic. Despite his frustrations with Cormier leaving the division, however, Gustafsson admits he was very impressed with the way Cormier ultimately defeated Miocic. “He did great. I’m impressed,” Gustafsson told Luke Thomas on the latest edition of The MMA Hour (transcribed by Peter Carroll for MMA Fighting). “I was impressed by the way he finished Stipe and how he won the fight. I’m very impressed by the guy, he did great.”

Whether or not the new two-division champion of the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, Daniel Cormier is actually wanting to set up a fight with Yoel Romero…he sure is by continuing the back and forth with the top-ranked middleweight. After Romero’s announcement through his manager, Malki Kawa that he will be looking to jump up in weight classes following his second loss to middleweight champ Robert Whittaker, the Cuban targetted the 205-pound king.
