Daniel Cormier training partner Luke Rockhold reacts to Jon Jones' failed drug test
Tom Taylor - September 14, 2017
When it was announced that Jon Jones had failed a drug test administered on the eve his of UFC 214 knockout of Daniel Cormier, it called his win into question. When Jon Jones’ B sample came back and confirmed he’d indeed ingested the banned substance Turinabol, it sucked the legitimacy out of his win – at least in the eyes of the sanctioning California State Athletic Commission. Shortly after the results of Jones’ B sample were released, the CSAC overturned his win over Cormier, rendering it a no-contest. From there, the UFC reinstated the former champ Cormier as the reigning champion.

The MMA world has been waiting with bated breath ever since his alleged anti-doping violation was first announced. There was hope after his blood test came back clean, but it looks like the UFC is moving forward after these last results as Jon Jones will prepare for his upcoming legal journey. Daniel Cormier on Jon Jones: I believe he would have had a ton of success without doing anything wrong
Russell Ess - September 6, 2017
Daniel Cormier is waiting in a very strange and uncomfortable place after losing to Jon Jones at UFC 214. With losing the UFC light heavyweight title and being knocked out and finished for the first time in his professional MMA career, Cormier could be on a path to getting the loss overturned and getting the belt back with Jones facing another potential anti-doping violation stemming from his drug test administered after the UFC 214 weigh-ins. Cormier has been very respectful of the due process as Jones is still innocent until the established process can determine otherwise.
Daniel Cormier's Plan to Throw Hands with Jones Even With a Possible Suspension
Justin Golightly - August 30, 2017
Sometimes the MMA gods smile upon us, other times they curse us. Jon Jones allegedly popped for performance enhancing drugs and is now entitled to his due process. If the worst of the worst happens, a domino effect of consequences crashes down upon himself, the UFC, and the light heavyweight division. Jon Jones could be suspended for as long as four years. This leaves Daniel Cormier in a bad position and he may run out of time before he gets to fight Jones one last time in the Octagon. That being said, Cormier may have thought up a clever way to still fight him. Episode 5: we discuss Jones test results, Money vs Mac, movies and Dennis large pizza fetish. VIDEO | Daniel Cormier Has a Long Discussion About Jon Jones for UFC on FOX
Justin Golightly - August 25, 2017
As we reported earlier in the week, this Jon Jones news and subsequent fallout will result in a domino effect that will touch many different things. One big domino in the middle of all this is former UFC light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier. Coming off his devastating loss, the man already had enough to deal already. Now, it’s all shoved back into his face again. While he is still on a cruise ship vacationing with his family, he took the time out for UFC on FOX to talk about Jon Jones at length. “Well, I was just getting to Hawaii. I was in the van heading to the hotel when I received a phone call, and the reaction was disbelief. It was crazy, man. You don’t expect to get that type of call any time, much less when you’re on your way to a vacation with you family. Very difficult [to digest this loss. You just want to have everything be right. I know when I walked away from that fight, I knew that he was better. You know, he had beat me again.”
Big John: Daniel Cormier Didn't Realize He Fought Jon Jones After KO
Justin Golightly - August 24, 2017
Old wounds can become new again when something catastrophic happens. UFC 214 came and went and we all moved on from Daniel Cormier’s defeat and his emotional interview that Joe Rogan later regretted. It might be hard to tell Cormier, but it isn’t bad being the second best light heavyweight in the world and top 10 pound-for-pound. We lifted Jon Jones back up as the UFC champ and the GOAT candidate. However, now that Jones allegedly popped for steroids, all those feelings come rushing back. Big John McCarthy recently revealed that Daniel Cormier didn’t realize he even fought Jones in a recent comprehensive interview for RT Sport. “He looked at me and he never even realized the fight started. He is sitting on the stool, he’s been knocked out and he is saying, ‘John what are they doing with my belt, we haven’t even fought yet. Why are they giving it to him?’ This is what occurs, this is the reality of fighting. And in the situation with Daniel Cormier, Dan doesn’t remember any of that. His brain doesn’t observe that information and put it in the memory because he got concussed. And this is part of our sport, and people need to understand what’s going on with it.”
Daniel Cormier sends a short and classy message to fans regarding Jon Jones' second potential USADA violation
Russell Ess - August 23, 2017
There is no doubt that Daniel Cormier is riding a seemingly endless roller coaster of emotions. With news breaking on Tuesday that Jon Jones was flagged for a second potential USADA violation, the future is still uncertain of what will come of the UFC light heavyweight championship title. With Jones being deemed a full and fair legal process before any sanctions are imposed, Cormier is laying off any judgment before that is done.

Volkan Oezdemir Wants to Fight Daniel Cormier When He Returns
Justin Golightly - August 18, 2017
The hit list was impressive as it was quick: Ovince Saint Preux, Misha Cirkunov, then Jimi Manuwa at UFC 214. Volkan Oezdemir came out of absolutely nowhere and devastated the shallow light heavyweight division. Rocketing to top three, it’s hard to believe that Oezdemir has such a short list of opponents since he just debuted in the UFC in February, but that’s what happens when you just start knocking out dudes. It’s a no-brainer that he wants to fight Jon Jones for the belt, but Jones seems to have his eyes on Brock Lesnar. He wants to fight Alexander Gustafsson, but he that rematch with Jones. That only leaves one man: Daniel Cormier. “[Daniel] Cormier could be an option in the future because he’s going to have to come back in the scene. Even though he comes off a loss, he’s still going to be the number one contender. We tried to work something out [with Alexander Gustafsson] for UFC Poland in the main event, but like I told you, he’s concentrating on fighting [Jon] Jones. […] It could be a good opportunity also. He’s the second guy in the division. He was the title holder for awhile also, but I think maybe he needs some time off after the rebound.” – Volkan Oezdemir via The MMA Digest.
Daniel Cormier talks move to heavyweight, says UFC has already suggested some "options"
Tom Taylor - August 14, 2017
Having relinquished the UFC light heavyweight title to his arch rival Jon Jones, former champion Daniel Cormier now finds himself at a crossroads. Really, if he doesn’t retire, he would seem to have two options. The first is to keep slogging away at light heavyweight in hopes of earning a third fight with Jones. The second would be to return to heavyweight, where his career began, and attempt to compete with apex predators like Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez. Speaking on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Cormier discussed a possible move back to heavyweight. Apparently, the move back up would not be an easy one, but it’s one he’d certainly consider.

Daniel Cormier: Jon Jones and I will fight again
Tom Taylor - August 14, 2017
Late last month, in the main event of UFC 214, then UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier attempted to defend his title against his fiercest rival, former champion Jon Jones. Unfortunately for Cormier, Jones won this fight via third-round knockout, moving to 2-0 in their rivalry as he did. Post-fight, Cormier suggested that, having lost twice to Jones, theirs wasn’t actually much of a rivalry. Despite this post-fight claim, however, Cormier announced on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour that he actually believes he and Jones will fight for a third time.

Tom Taylor - August 13, 2017
Late last month, in the main event of UFC 214, then UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier stepped into the cage with his arch-enemy, former champ Jon Jones. Just like that, he’d reclaimed the light heavyweight throne, while Cormier’s title reign had screeched to a grim end. Unsurprisingly, the ever-passionate Daniel Cormier did not take this loss well. Immediately after the fight, during an ill-advised interview with Joe Rogan, he broke down in tears, indicating clearly that he was both concussed and heartbroken.

It has been said time and time again that in the sport of mixed martial arts, you experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. UFC 214 displayed just that, especially in the main event light heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. Cormier went into the title fight rematch as the champion while Jones came in the challenger after coming off a year suspension after testing positive for banned substances.
