Daniel Cormier suffered the first knockout loss of his professional career at last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, California. “DC” was stopped by Jon Jones in the third-round of their event headlining fight, surrendering his UFC light heavyweight title in the process.

Last night, in the main event of UFC 214, Daniel Cormier attempted to defend the UFC light heavyweight title opposite Jon Jones, his fiercest rival and the only man he’s lost to. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way Cormier planned, as he was smashed with a third-round head-kick and polished off by a swarm of ground punches. Though Daniel Cormier can no longer lay claim to the UFC light heavyweight title, he will return home with a sizeable check. According to a report from MMAFighting.com, the former champ pocketed a whopping $1 million for his losing effort to Jon Jones. With this impressive payday, Cormier joins Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey as one of just five fighters to earn a million dollars or more for a single fight. Jones, meanwhile, earned a disclosed payday of $500,000. Like Cormier, it’s possible that he will receive a share of the PPV revenue.

Last night, in the main event of the stacked UFC 214, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier attempted to defend his title against his fiercest rival and the only man he’s lost to, Jon Jones. Unfortunately for Cormier and his fans, however, he came up short, as he was put down by a Jones head kick in the third round. Though Cormier has not yet spoken up in the wake of this loss, his head-coach at American Kickboxing Academy, Javier Mendez, has. Last night, in the main event of the absolutely stacked UFC 214, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones finally stepped into the cage for their long-awaited rematch. Though Cormier started strong – arguably winning the early portions of the fight – he was cracked in the third by a monstrous Jones head-kick. A few followup ground strikes later and the deed was done. Daniel Cormier had lost by third-round knockout, and the light heavyweight title was once again around Jon Jones’ waist. In the moments after this emphatic stoppage, Jones celebrated with his team and family, while an emotional Cormier struggled to keep his footing, stumbling around the Octagon and shining a spotlight on the ugly, brain-rattling undertone of the sport we all love so much. Shortly after the conclusion of the fight, UFC commentator Joe Rogan decided to interview a very emotional former champion Daniel Cormier, who had just been knocked out minutes prior.

Jon Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight championship at last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, this after scoring a third-round TKO victory over Daniel Cormier in the evenings main event. After two closely contested rounds, “Bones” was able to find a home for a crushing head kick early in round three which left Cormier staggered and on wobbly legs. Jones would immediately rush after “DC” and get him to the octagon canvas where he proceeded to unleash some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call a stop to the action.

Jon Jones returned to the octagon in the featured bout of last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim where he squared off with bitter rival Daniel Cormier in a rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship. After two very closely contested opening rounds, “Bones” was able to land a massive head kick to the face of “DC” in round three which left Cormier in all sorts of trouble. Shortly following the kick, Jones out Cormier on the canvas where he began raining down some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call the contest.

A light heavyweight title fight rematch between current champ Daniel Cormier and former title holder Jon Jones served as the main event of tonight’s UFC 214 fight card in Anaheim, California. Round one begins and Jones lands a hard low kick. He lands a right hand and then a left. Jones starting off quickly. Cormier lands a massive uppercut that knocks the mouth guard out of Jon Jones. The referee hands it to him. Jones lands a takedown but Cormier scrambles and they are back up. Jones with a left hand. Cormier replies with one of his own. Jones with a nice shot to the body. He lands a kick to the thigh. Cormier presses forward. Jones fakes a kick. He throws a low kick. He lands a left and then throws Cormier in to the fence. Another good jab and then a low kick from Jones. He lands a hard knee to the mid section. DC comes forward and lands a pair of low kicks. He follows that up with a right hand. Jones replies with a low kick of his own. Cormier circles and returns fire. Jones with a good kick to the body. He follows that up with an elbow. Jones with a nice right hand over the top. Jones with a left hand and then a front kick. DC replies with a low kick. Jones comes over the top with an elbow. DC misses with a wild right but then lands a low kick. Jones fires back with a low kick of his own. DC with a nice left hand. He presses forward and lands a right. Jones fires back with a pair of left hands. DC comes forward and lands a pair of big punches. Jones showboats but then eats a right hand. Cormier with some low kicks and then one to the body. Jones returns fire with a low kick. Round one comes to an end.

Friday morning during the UFC 214 early weigh-ins, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s team was involved in a bit of a verbal spat with former light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones’ brother, Arthur Jones. Arthur, the eldest Jones brother, is a star in his own right. An NFL Defensive tackle standing at 6’3 and 320 pounds, Arthur Jones has won two Super Bowl championships, and been named to the All-Big East First NFL team twice over the course of his career. In addition, Arthur has been praised by Jon Jones for his fighting skills in the gym as well.

Thursday afternoon at the UFC 214 media day, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones came face to face for yet another heated staredown ahead of their scrap on Saturday. Jon Jones, in an effort to make a statement about the physique of Cormier, hit the stage shirtless for the staredown. When the two men came face to face, they remained silent for most of the staredown as they locked eyes. Jones then appeared to say something to Cormier under his breath, that was not picked up by cameras.

Both men have made weight and the bout is official for the what many are claiming the best card of the year, thus far. Ahead of the fight, the stars took to the UFC 214 open workouts where Jones opted to just sign autographs for fans. Cormier did an open workout for fans and media and cut an exceptional promotion that had his fans pumped.

In UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s most recent fight, the champ caught quite a bit of criticism when he weighed in 1.2 pounds over the light heavyweight title fight limit of 205 pounds for his title defense with Anthony Johnson. Cormier then reemerged just moments later and pressed down on the privacy towel to offset his weight, in order to make weight without cutting the weight. The bout stands out as the biggest of the year thus far, and pretty much everybody has an opinion on it. One of the latest members of the MMA community to share their opinion on the fight was three-time UFC title challenger, current Bellator star, and perennial soundbite-generator Chael Sonnen. The two rivals are constantly berating each other in interviews and on social media, and they’re poised to take it out on each other in the cage this weekend. Surprisingly, however, the two rivals can conjure up some compliments about one another when pressed. In a recent segment called “Fighting Words” with Fox Sports, Jones and Cormier did just that.
