Daniel Cormier fires back at "limp d*ck" Jon Jones, war of words ensues

Tom Taylor - July 18, 2017

Over the weekend, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones blasted his UFC 214 opponent, reigning light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, with some pretty significant trash talk. This bit of trash talk served as the spark for yet another fiery social media exchange between the two, which occurred on both Twitter and Instagram. See their latest exchanges below, which also involved Chi-Lewis Parry, a kickboxer and One Championship heavyweight who has served as one of Cormier’s training partners for his rematch with Jones.

Daniel Cormier defends Amanda Nunes' UFC 213 withdrawal

Tom Taylor - July 16, 2017

If things had gone according to plan, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes would have collided with dangerous challenger Valentina Shevchenko in the main event of UFC 213 on July 8. Regrettably, Nunes fell ill through the week of fight, and was ultimately forced to withdraw from the fight on the very day it was supposed to occur. In the wake of her withdrawal, Nunes found herself under fire, as many members of the MMA community suggested she was scared, and UFC President Dana White claimed her withdrawal was probably mostly mental.

Tom Taylor - July 9, 2017

Originally, last night’s UFC 213 was supposed to be the biggest card of the year thus far. Thanks to an unfortunate series of events, however, that title now belongs firmly to UFC 214, which goes down on July 29 in Anaheim California. This card will feature a whopping three title fights. The first will go down at featherweight, where Cris “Cyborg” Justino will collide with Tonya Evinger for the vacant throne. The second will occur at welterweight, where champ Tyron Woodley will attempt to defend his title against crafty grappling whiz Demian. The third, and biggest by a mile, will occur at light heavyweight, where champion Daniel Cormier will take on his fiercest rival – and the only man he’s lost to – Jon Jones.

There is no denying that Conor McGregor is one of the biggest stars that mixed martial arts has ever seen. “The Notorious” has already won by being the first to bring two superstars from the world of boxing and MMA still in the height of their careers to meet for a fight, which takes place in the boxing ring on August 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

On August 26, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will take his first steps into the professional boxing arena opposite undefeated defensive specialist and possible GOAT Floyd Mayweather Jr. It’s a fight that initially seemed almost impossible, but one that ultimately came to fruition. In the opinion of UFC light heavyweight champion and Fox Sports analyst Daniel Cormier, that fact can be largely attributed to McGregor’s gift for promotion. “Floyd had to listen for this to happen,” Cormier recently told Fight Hype (h/t BloodyElbow). “Floyd had to take notice. How did Conor McGregor, a mixed martial arts guy – he has no boxing experience – get the attention of the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the world, and maybe the best boxer of all-time? How did he do that?”

bjpenndotcom - June 9, 2017

On July 29th, at UFC 214, former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones will step into the Octagon with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for a highly anticipated rematch 2 years in the making. While Jones and Cormier have been slated to fight on numerous occasions, they have stepped into the Octagon together just once, in 2015, when Jones defeated Cormier via unanimous decision, handing Cormier the first loss of his professional career. Ahead of the rematch on July 29th, Daniel Cormier appeared on SportsCenter to discuss the rematch, pleading for Jones to “stay out of trouble” long enough to make it to the fight:

Daniel Cormier: UFC should pay Demetrious Johnson a million dollars to fight Dillashaw

Tom Taylor - June 8, 2017

Over the last few weeks, UFC President Dana White has been pushing UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson to accept a fight with a slimmed down former bantamweight champion in TJ Dillashaw. Johnson, however, has some real reservations. He believes the next flyweight title shot should go to the established Ray Borg, and is reluctant to take any huge risks for the UFC President, who he recently divulged hasn’t treated him especially well. During a Wednesday night appearance on UFC Tonight, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier weighed in on this complicated UFC-Johnson-Dillashaw debacle. In his opinion, if the UFC wants to make this Johnson-Dillashaw happen they need to make it worth the flyweight champ’s while. Cormier believes a one million dollar payday should be enough in that regard.

On July 29, in the main event of UFC 214, former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will return from a lengthy layoff to challenge reigning champion Daniel Cormier for the title. In April of 2016, Jones returned from a similar layoff. Though he was originally expected to challenge Cormier for gold in this 2016 return to action, a last-minute Cormier injury meant he instead battled late-replacement Ovince St. Preux for interim gold.

NYSAC amends weigh-in rules following Daniel Cormier's 'towelgate' incident

bjpenndotcom - May 26, 2017

Prior to UFC 210 last month, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier caught quite a bit of controversy for his early weigh-in on Friday morning. Cormier stepped onto the scale and missed weight on his first attempt, weighing in above the light heavyweight title fight limit of 205 pounds. Just over a minute later, Cormier reemerged from backstage, and stepped on the scale to weigh in once again. This time, Cormier pressed his hands down on the privacy towel, offsetting his weight so as to weigh-in at 205 without actually having to cut the weight.

It’s no secret that former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones and reigning light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier don’t exactly get along. Back in 2014, Jones and Cormier appeared onstage together at the UFC 178 media day. While the pair were simply supposed to have a staredown, the two men engaged in a now infamous brawl which saw UFC exec Dave Sholler thrown through the backdrop. Fast forward nearly four years and the two men’s rivalry is as strong as ever.

Confirmed: Jon Jones will rematch Daniel Cormier at UFC 214

Tom Taylor - May 10, 2017

Not long ago, UFC President Dana White suggested that he would never trust former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to headline a pay-per-view again, citing the former champ’s many troubles outside the cage as the reason. It appears that this was an empty promise. BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor has confirmed with sources close to the fight that Jones will make his anticipated return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 214, where he will will challenge reigning champion Daniel Cormier for the UFC light heavyweight title. The bout was first reported to be in the works by MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani. The card goes down on July 29 in Anaheim, California.
