Daniel Cormier promises things will "not be good" if Jon Jones tries to enter the Octagon at UFC 210

Tom Taylor - April 6, 2017

This Saturday night, the UFC will touch down in Buffalo, New York with UFC 210. In the main event of this card, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will attempt to defend his title against an old foe in streaking challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Whoever wins this light heavyweight title fight will likely have a monumental challenge on their plate before the year is out, as they will be tasked with welcoming former champion Jon Jones back to the Octagon. Jones, who stands out as the greatest light heavyweight in MMA history, and one of the best fighters ever outright, never lost the title, but was instead stripped after a litany of troubles outside the cage.

Daniel Cormier goes off on Jon Jones for attending UFC 210

bjpenndotcom - April 6, 2017

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently serving a one-year suspension retroactive to July of 2016, when USADA swooped in at the 11th hour and pulled Jones from his scheduled UFC 200 scrap with Daniel Cormier for a failed out-of-competition drug test. While it appeared as though Jones and his legal team were able to prove that one of the supplements the former champ was taking was tainted with a banned substance not listed on the packaging, he was still handed a one-year suspension. According to Daniel Cormier, who is gearing up for his UFC 210 title defense against Anthony Johnson this weekend, he’s seen posters around Buffalo, New York advertising Jones’ UFC 210 afterparty. The way the champ sees it, this is because Jones is “desperate”.

Dana White unsure of why Daniel Cormier is unpopular among fans

bjpenndotcom - April 5, 2017

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is arguably one of the most decorated fighters on the UFC roster. In addition to reigning as the UFC light heavyweight champion, Cormier is an extremely accomplished wrestler, qualifying as a NCAA Division I All-American, and as an Olympic wrestler. Of course, Cormier also was the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix champion in 2012 prior to signing with the UFC, defeating Josh Barnett in the finals of the tournament. With that being said, UFC President Dana White cannot fathom why Cormier isn’t more popular among fans.

bjpenndotcom - April 1, 2017

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has certainly had a long and storied rivalry with current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. The pair’s rivalry began several years ago, and escalated to an all new level when the pair were involved in their infamous press conference brawl. While the pair have been scheduled to fight on several occasions, they have only met in the Octagon once, where Jones earned a unanimous decision over his rival. Most recently, the pair were set to fight at UFC 200 in July of 2016, however just 48 hours prior to the fight Jones was notified of a USADA anti-doping violation. While ‘Bones’ was cleared of any wrongdoing when it was discovered that the failure was the result of a tainted supplement, he was still handed a year-long suspension.

Given Rumble’s incredible punching power, however, the outcome of this fight could well be different. As such, The MMA community seems to be divided when it comes to predictions for this battle.

In a few short weeks, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will attempt to defend his title against destructive challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. If all goes Cormier’s way, he’ll then attempt to defend his title against Jon Jones, a troubled former champion and his biggest rival. Beyond bouts with Rumble and Jones, however, it’s hard to say who might next contend for the UFC light heavyweight crown. This, unsurprisingly, is something Cormier has considered. On a recent episode of MMAJunkie Radio, Cormier discussed the top-heavy nature of the light heavyweight division, and outlined his immediate plans as champion.
