Both men have made weight and the bout is official for the what many are claiming the best card of the year, thus far. Ahead of the fight, the stars took to the UFC 214 open workouts where Jones opted to just sign autographs for fans. Cormier did an open workout for fans and media and cut an exceptional promotion that had his fans pumped.

In UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s most recent fight, the champ caught quite a bit of criticism when he weighed in 1.2 pounds over the light heavyweight title fight limit of 205 pounds for his title defense with Anthony Johnson. Cormier then reemerged just moments later and pressed down on the privacy towel to offset his weight, in order to make weight without cutting the weight. Ahead of Cormier’s UFC 214 showdown with Jon Jones this weekend, Cormier’s nutritionist spoke with MMAFighting to discuss the situation leading up to the fight:

This weekend, in the main event of UFC 214, former light heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound great Jon Jones will attempt to reclaim the title he never actual lost opposite dominant reigning champion Daniel Cormier. The bout stands out as the biggest of the year thus far, and pretty much everybody has an opinion on it. One of the latest members of the MMA community to share their opinion on the fight was three-time UFC title challenger, current Bellator star, and perennial soundbite-generator Chael Sonnen. Sonnen, who lost a title fight against Jones in 2013, gave his take on the fight in an interview with Duane Finley of FloCombat.

On Wednesday evening, UFC 214 headliners Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones joined Kenny Florian and Michael Bisping on Fox Sports 1 for one of their final pre-fight interviews. As expected, the two rivals once again got into it. At one point, Jones was asked whether emotion will play a factor when the cage door closes on Saturday night. He and Cormier are, after all, not fans of one another.

UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The main event features a rematch between current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones. The two will be fighting for the second time in their careers with Jones getting the best of Cormier in their first match at UFC 182, winning a unanimous decision after their initial five round title fight.

That’s as clear today, when we’re days out from their blockbuster UFC 214 rematch, as it has been for the last three years. The two rivals are constantly berating each other in interviews and on social media, and they’re poised to take it out on each other in the cage this weekend. Surprisingly, however, the two rivals can conjure up some compliments about one another when pressed. In a recent segment called “Fighting Words” with Fox Sports, Jones and Cormier did just that.

Not long ago, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones Tweeted that he had received a surprise phone call from middleweight legend Anderson Silva. During yesterday’s UFC 214 conference call, Jones elaborated that Silva’s call surrounded Jones’ UFC 214 title fight with Daniel Cormier. Apparently, Silva wanted to assure the former champ that Cormier has “fear in his heart” – which makes him a beatable opponent for Jones. Jones paraphrased Anderson’s Silva’s words (h/t MMAFighting.com).

Yesterday afternoon, light heavyweight rivals Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones spoke on the official UFC 214 media conference call. One of the more interesting moments of this call occurred after Cormier once again suggested Jones had abused steroids throughout his title reign. Though Jones initially ignored this comment, he later went off on Cormier for attacking his character, and claimed that, deep down, Cormier knows he never did steroids. “This whole thing that we’re going through, it has become an attack on my character,” Jones said (h/t MMAFighting.com). “That’s all this thing is, is an attack on my character. When people ask Daniel what he thinks about me inside the Octagon, he has sh*t to say about me.

Their main event title fight will mark the latest crescendo in one of the fiercest rivalries in MMA, a rivalry Jones recently said he’d be willing to put to bed post-fight. “This rivalry ends at UFC 214 and after (the fight), I honestly have no problem with Daniel Cormier,” Jones told FloCombat.com. “If he wants to be friends, be a sportsman and realize I’m just the better fighter, that would be great. It would show a lot about who he is. I doubt he’ll do that though based on how he acted the first time I beat him.”

If things had gone according to plan, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes would have collided with dangerous challenger Valentina Shevchenko in the main event of UFC 213 on July 8. Regrettably, Nunes fell ill through the week of fight, and was ultimately forced to withdraw from the fight on the very day it was supposed to occur. In the wake of her withdrawal, Nunes found herself under fire, as many members of the MMA community suggested she was scared, and UFC President Dana White claimed her withdrawal was probably mostly mental.

Originally, last night’s UFC 213 was supposed to be the biggest card of the year thus far. Thanks to an unfortunate series of events, however, that title now belongs firmly to UFC 214, which goes down on July 29 in Anaheim California. This card will feature a whopping three title fights. The first will go down at featherweight, where Cris “Cyborg” Justino will collide with Tonya Evinger for the vacant throne. The second will occur at welterweight, where champ Tyron Woodley will attempt to defend his title against crafty grappling whiz Demian. The third, and biggest by a mile, will occur at light heavyweight, where champion Daniel Cormier will take on his fiercest rival – and the only man he’s lost to – Jon Jones.
