Stipe Miocic: You’re Going to See Daniel Cormier Get Beat Up at UFC 226
When it was announced that Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic were going to have a superfight, it was completely out of nowhere. The match-up is insane, historic, and a spectacle everyone is looking forward too. Usually, big fights like these that are also hyped up by a season of The Ultimate Fighter focuses on the marketable bad blood or insults from the other fighters. This fight most likely won’t have that, or need it. Just because Miocic is not prone to trash talk though, that doesn’t stop him from telling everyone matter-of-factly what is going to go down when they fight at UFC 226.
“[Trash talk is] just too much. It’s exhausting for me. I don’t need to go out of my way. I have other things to worry about, like training, or work, the wife, or fixing the house up. I’ve got other things to worry about other than hurting someone’s feelings. I’m just a normal guy. I don’t have expensive cars or expensive clothes. I’m just me. I have a family, a baby on the way. I have a house, a mortgage to worry about. That’s all I worry about – taking care of them and making sure we’re all set.”

“I think the fans look at me as one of them. I’m no different. People like me for who I am. I’m not going to change who I am. I’m not going to put on a bigger persona. I’m just going to be me. Nothing changes, man. I’ve worked way to hard and sacrificed way too much to get that belt. I’m going to go out there and do my job. [Daniel Cormier]’s an amazing fighter, but unfortunately you’re going to see him get beat up.” — Stipe Miocic speaking to The BBC MMA Show.
This July scrap is so compelling, not just because of Daniel Cormier attempting to become a two-weight champion, but because of his history at heavyweight. He was undefeated and took out the likes of Josh Barnett and Bigfoot Silva, but Cormier hasn’t fought at the weight since 2013 and Stipe Miocic is the current number one heavyweight in the world. Will it be a one-sided beatdown like Miocic predicts, or will it be more competitive than some think? We have five long months to wait.
