Timetable for Daniel Cormier’s return following UFC 197 withdrawal
Friday evening it was announced that Daniel Cormier would no longer be able to fight Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 197 after suffering a knee injury in training.
Ultimately, UFC President Dana White announced on SportsCenter on Saturday that Ovince Saint Preux would be stepping in on short notice to fight Jon Jones for the interim UFC light heavyweight championship at UFC 197 on April 23rd.
With Jones vs. Saint Preux now headlining UFC 197, it is expected that the winner of that fight will face Daniel Cormier down the line for the undisputed light heavyweight championship.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto received word from Daniel Cormier on how long he would be out, which he relayed to Twitter.
Defending champ Cormier told me 4-to-6 weeks recovery for the injury that knocked him out of UFC 197.
