VIDEO | Daniel Cormier on UFC 226 Superfight: “I wouldn’t do this if I wasn’t confident I could beat Stipe Miocic”

By Drake Riggs - March 14, 2018

“We don’t have any issues. This one’s about competition and in competition is when I compete my best. I’m excited about testing myself against this guy. I think he’s a tremendous champion, but as I tell him…all good things come to an end.

Stipe! I didn’t wanna be the one to have to do it to ya, homie. But I gotta get it done, I want to be the champ-champ.

This is going to be very difficult, look… I’m not a guy that runs away from the challenge. I go into the challenge, this is a big man, a very skilled, talented guy that’s gonna come try to knock me out. But, man I rise to the occasion.

I would not do this if I was not confident that I could beat Stipe Miocic. And for as difficult as it may be, i’ve said time and time again, i’ve trained with the best heavyweight of all time on a day to day basis for ten years. And if I can go and fight Cain Velasquez, I can go and beat Stipe Miocic in July.

I believe i’m gonna get it done, man I can’t wait.”

The biggest super fight in the history of MMA takes place on July 7th at UFC 226. That’s right, it’s the heavyweight champ, Stipe Miocic defending against the light heavyweight champ, Daniel Cormier.

The two just got finished coaching season 27 of The Ultimate Fighter which features entirely undefeated fighters. Each man last defended their titles on the same night, UFC 220 on January 20th. Cormier defeated Volkan Oezdemir in the co-main by second-round submission while Miocic defeated Francis Ngannou in the main event by unanimous decision.

For the 20-1, Cormier, this will be his first fight at heavyweight since 2013. Cormier is an undefeated 13-0 in the division and hopes to make it a stellar 14-0 with a potential huge dual title-holding performance come July.
