Darren Elkins replaces Clay Guida, meets Chad Mendes at UFC on FOX 7 | UFC News
Darren Elkins (16-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) improved to 5-0 as a UFC featherweight this past weekend at UFC 158, as he defeated Antonio Carvalho via first round TKO.
Coming away victorious and unscathed in Montreal allowed Elkins to step in for the injured Clay Guida to now meet Chad Mendes (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at UFC on FOX 7 next month.
Elkins’ win over Carvalho marked his first stoppage victory as a featherweight, this after reeling off four straight unanimous-decision wins. With a win over Chad “Money” Mendes this April, the former lightweight would jump into immediate title contention.
The Team Alpha Male product, Chad “Money” Mendes, has strung together back-to-back wins over Cody McKenzie and Yaotzin Meza respectively. Prior to that, Mendes suffered the first loss of his MMA career when he was KO’d by Jose Aldo in his attempt to win the featherweight title at UFC 142.
UFC on FOX 7 takes place April 20 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The main event features a lightweight title fight between champion Benson Henderson and final Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez, airs on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook.
