Opinion: The thrill of believing in Darren Till's self-belief

Mike Pendleton - October 29, 2019

The confident quotes and one-liners used to be endless from Darren Till, but a recent skid had him silenced as he figured out his best moved. During his run to a welterweight title fight against Tyron Woodley at UFC 228 in September of 2018, Till electrified the welterweight division with his most notable wins coming over Cowboy Cerrone and Stephen Thompson. What followed after his run to the top would hold many fighters down, Till would come up short in his fight against Woodley and then he returned to face Jorge Masvidal earlier this year, but suffered a second-round knockout loss. After taking time off to decide on his next move, Till jumped, better yet, leaped into the deep-end of the promotions middleweight division.

Adam Martin - October 19, 2019

UFC middleweight Darren Till says that he’s not worried about a third straight loss at UFC 244, insisting he won’t take the ‘sh*tbag route’ in his career. “The Gorilla” was recently interviewed by Chisanga Malata of Express and confirmed the reports that UFC president Dana White did not want him to fight Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244. After being tapped out by Tyron Woodley and getting knocked out by Jorge Masvidal, White is worried Till may potentially lose three straight fights. But according to the Englishman, he’s not worried about that in the least. He just wants the toughest opponent out there for his UFC middleweight debut, and he told White exactly that.

Cole Shelton - September 14, 2019

Darren Till is on a two-fight losing streak and now moving up to middleweight. At UFC 244, the Englishman will take on Kelvin Gastelum who is coming off of an interim title shot. For Till, the stakes are high for this one. With Gastelum being ranked fourth, a win would put him in the top-five of the middleweight division. Yet, the Englishman doesn’t believe a win here should get him a title shot as there are other fighters who deserve it more.

Dana White defends Darren Till vs. Kelvin Gastelum booking

Tom Taylor - August 28, 2019

Darren Till will not get a warmup in his middleweight debut. Instead, the long-time welterweight has been booked to battle the middleweight division’s fourth-ranked fighter, Kelvin Gastelum, at UFC 244 in New York.
