Darren Till Skyrockets High Into the Rankings After Taking Out Cowboy Cerrone

Justin Golightly - October 24, 2017

We shouldn’t have been surprised. All through the build-up UFC Gdansk, Darren Till told us what he’d do. He made no mistake showing off his confidence. Now we know that he was fibbing, he showed up in Poland and took out Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. He didn’t just take the win, but he did it with ease. Cerrone isn’t the only thing that Darren Till made short work of, he went from being nowhere near the Ufc welterweight rankings to breaking through into to the top 10. Darren Till rockets from unranked to #8 after #UFCGdansk, consequently pushing #15 Mike Perry out and causing all sort of mix-ups. pic.twitter.com/YFpFTpPWJR

Mike Perry isn't the only welterweight striker in Darren Till's crosshairs

Tom Taylor - October 24, 2017

Over the weekend, in the main event of the UFC’s return to Poland, rising British welterweight Darren Till picked up the finest win of his impressive career thus far, putting down long-time contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone with a volley of punches in the first frame. In the wake of this impressive win, Till made a clever callout of another rising welterweight in “Platinum” Mike Perry, who was sitting cage-side during the event in Poland. Unsurprisingly, this callout resulted in a heated, through-the-chainlink confrontation between Till and Perry, which gave immediate merit to a potential fight between them down the road (Perry is currently booked for a fight with Santiago Ponzinibbio).

Tom Taylor - October 22, 2017

Instead, he believes Demian Maia, who Woodley recently defeated, to be the toughest test at welterweight. Till’s words:

Donald Cerrone returns to the Octagon for his third fight this year as he is set to take on rising star Darren Till in the main event of UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland. “Cowboy” is riding the first two-fight winning streak of his professional MMA career after fighting two world-class opponents. In January, Cerrone lost for the first time since moving up to the welterweight division to current number 4 ranked UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal. Cerrone’s next matchup in July would not get any easier with falling short in a unanimous decision loss to former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, who is currently the number 1 ranked 170-pound contender.

Justin Golightly - October 18, 2017

Early in the afternoon on Saturday, there is going to be a wild fight going down in Poland and the only place you can watch it is on UFC Fight Pass. Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone will throw down with up-and-comer Darren Till in the main event. You’d think a name like Cerrone would want to be on pay-per-view somewhere, or the curtain-jerker on a big UFC on FOX card, but he couldn’t care less. He wants anyone who doesn’t have Fight Pass to shell out the nine bucks because the Cowboy is fighting and that’s just must-see TV. “I want the UFC to post, ‘Cowboy in Poland [on] Fight Pass’ and people say, ‘What the f-ck is Fight Pass? I gotta’ figure out what Fight Pass is. How do we watch this fight?’ That’s what I want. I want you guys to come on and have the biggest draw in the Fight Pass history. Right? Because people gotta’ figure out how they’re going to watch the Cowboy fight because theyk now the son of a b-tch is going in there, biting down, and giving it all. Win or lose, I just want people to know he fights with everything he’s got.”

"Gorilla" Darren Till hints at massive weight advantage ahead of bout with "lightweight" Donald Cerrone

Tom Taylor - September 11, 2017

Shortly after Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone agreed to fight Darren Till in the main event of UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland, he told MMAFighting.com that he “didn’t know anything,” about the man he had just agreed to fight. According to Till, who appeared on a recent edition of Talking Brawls podcast, that will soon change. As the much larger man, he expects to blow through “Cowboy.” “Why should he know me?” Till queried on the podcast (h/t SevereMMA.com). “It’s not disrespectful. He’s going to know me when I knock him out. That’s just irrelevant; why should he know me?”
