The Octagon remains in Nevada for today’s UFC Vegas 36 event, a nine-bout fight card headlined by Derek Brunson vs. Darren Till. Brunson (22-7 MMA) will enter today’s main event sporting a four-fight winning streak, his latest being a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Holland. The 37-year-old has not suffered defeat since November of 2018, when he was TKO’s by reigning UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 36 took place on Friday in Las Vegas, and 19 of the 20 fighters scheduled to compete made weight. In the headliner, both Derek Brunson and Darren Till successfully made weight for their middleweight clash. Both Brunson and Till are top-10 ranked fighters in the UFC middleweight division and the winner of this fight should be close to getting a title shot at 185lbs. Brunson successfully made weight at 186lbs, while Till made weight at 185.5lbs.

It’s a pivotal fight between the two top-10 ranked middleweights, as the winner figures to get one step closer to the title. Heading into this fight, Till is coming off of a close decision loss to former champ Robert Whittaker, while Brunson has won four straight fights, albeit over lesser-ranked fighters, including the aforementioned Holland and Shahbazyan, who have shown serious holes in their takedown defense. Just because Brunson smashed those guys with ease doesn’t mean Till will be easy to take down, and he reminded Brunson of just that.

Till moved up to middleweight following his knockout loss to Jorge Masvidal and since then has gone 1-1 with a decision victory over Kelvin Gastelum and a decision loss to Robert Whittaker. However, as he prepares to face Derek Brunson in the main event of UFC Vegas 35, Till says he would be open to dropping down back down to welterweight to face Usman who has mentioned the Englishman’s name.

Darren Till believes he will defeat Israel Adesanya to become the UFC middleweight champion. Till has been vocal about being a UFC champion in his career but it has yet to come to fruition so far. He did fight for UFC gold at UFC 228 but lost by submission to Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title.

Yet, according to Adesanya, he was offered to coach the show against Till but he said no for a couple of reasons.

As for Chimaev, he has been dealing with health issues all year long after a tough battle with COVID-19, but he is expected to make a return to the Octagon this summer. While Chimaev is fighting at welterweight now, it appears as though he is still interested in fighting at middleweight down the road, and Till could be an opponent.

Till vs. Brunson was revealed earlier this week to take place as the headliner of the UFC’s August 14 event. However, no venue or location was announced for the card at the time. Most figured it would take place in Las Vegas, where the UFC has exclusively held its Fight Night cards for the past year, but according to Bisping, the fight takes place in London.

The event had yet to be officially announced as part of the UFC schedule but it would take place just a week ahead of another pivotal 185-pound bout between Paulo Costa and Jared Cannonier.
