VIDEO | Darren Till sends a very clear message to the world in epic promo
The next UFC welterweight title bout isn’t the one that we expected to be seeing happen next but it is still quite an intriguing one.
After UFC 225 had concluded early in June, a new interim champion had been crowned. That champion being the man known as “Chaos” Colby Covington who defeated the former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos to earn said title.
Unfortunately for Covington, he would need some recovery time after his five-round affair with the Brazilian. Not being able to return until November, the UFC just couldn’t wait and made an undisputed 170-pound title fight for the month that comes before it.
As a result of this, Covington will be stripped of his recently earned title once the bout begins.
Of course, that bout will be the undisputed champion, Tyron Woodley attempting to defend his throne against the undeniably confident rising star from Liverpool, Darren Till at UFC 228 on September 8.
The 25-year old Till is an undefeated 17-0-1 and burst onto the scene in late 2017 with his breakthrough performance against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
After going 3-0-1 to start off his UFC career, Till was rewarded with a main event spot in Gdansk, Poland opposite the seasoned veteran in Cowboy.
Cowboy was a very obvious big step up for Till but it didn’t matter as the Brit passed the test with flying colors.
His first round striking domination over Cerrone would lead to yet another high-profile main event slot for Till as he would draw one of MMA’s all-time greatest strikers, the two-time title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Off the heels of a vintage Wonderboy display against Jorge Masvidal, Thompson was all in on trying to take out the Liverpool native in front of his home crowd.
In an incredibly competitive bout, it would end up being Till who came away with the unanimous decision victory in front of a truly electric atmosphere.
Having already proved many people wrong before, Till will look to keep doing so as it doesn’t get much bigger than his next challenge in the champion, Woodley.
