Demetrious Johnson reflects on “misunderstanding” with Dana White
Recently, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and UFC President Dana White were involved in a very public spat following Johnson’s refusal to fight former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw at flyweight.
While many fans were quick to criticize Mighty Mouse for allegedly “ducking” Dillashaw, the champ revealed in an open letter than the UFC had recently just pressured him into signing a fight with Ray Borg, a deal they then wanted him to go back on.
The situation was an ugly one, with Johnson claiming that White even went as far as to threaten to shut down the flyweight division.
Now, several months removed from the incident, Johnson spoke on The MMA Hour to reflect on he & White’s current situation:
“I don’t think it’s fair when you have two grown men bicker on the f*cking Internet. You know what I mean? We’ll end up like Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian. Grown men, they sit down and talk about it, and that’s what we’re going to do in two weeks.”
“It was just a big misunderstanding and we’re going to meet with Dana White,” Johnson said. “Dana White’s a grown-ass man, I am too, he’s got kids, I got kids, we’re going to sit down and get on the same level and go from there and see what options we have.”
While he recently underwent stem cell treatment for a hand injury, Johnson isn’t looking to sit out very long, despite the fact that he is looking to give his hand enough time to heal.
He spoke about his plan to return, saying:
“I’m fighting this year,” Johnson said. “There’s money to be made, and I want mine.”
With all of that being said, Johnson does indeed expect his next opponent to be Ray Borg.
