No love for UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson?

UFC flyweight champion continued his reign of dominance at last night’s TUF 24 Finale event in Las Vegas, scoring a unanimous decision victory over The Ultimate Fighter winner Tim Elliott in the evenings main event.

The victory marked Johnson’s ninth straight title defense and improved his overall mixed martial arts record to a remarkable 25-2-1.

Despite his dominance inside the octagon, “Mighty Mouse” has had a tough time drawing in fans to watch his work.

That trend continued at last night’s TUF 24 Finale event, as MMAJunkie’s Mike Bohn reported that the attendance and gate for the December 3 fight card was the lowest numbers of any event in the 2016 calendar year.

With his victory over Elliott, Johnson has basically cleaned out the 125-pound division, leaving many fans and analysts to wonder what will come next for the long time UFC flyweight champion.

Joseph Benavidez earned top contender status at last night’s TUF 24 Finale by scoring a split-decision victory over former title challenger Henry Cejudo in the evenings co-main event.

With that said, Benavidez has already fought “Mighty Mouse” for the title on two occasions, dropping a decision to Johnson in 2012 and then suffering a first-round knockout loss to DJ in December of 2013.

Later this month in the co-main event of UFC 207, UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will put his title on the line against surging contender Cody Garbrandt.

If Cruz is able to successfully defend his title against “No Love”, I think the UFC should put together a super-fight between “The Dominator” and “Mighty Mouse”.

Cruz and Johnson already have a history, having fought in October of 2011 for the 135-pound title. Cruz was able to defeat Johnson via unanimous decision that evening and DJ has not suffered defeat since the setback.
