UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is arguably the most dominant fighter on the UFC roster, going undefeated since his 2011 loss to Dominick Cruz, which to this day remains the only UFC loss on his record. This weekend, Johnson will look to tie UFC legend Anderson Silva’s record for most successful UFC title defenses when he faces Wilson Reis in a highly anticipated ‘UFC on FOX’ showdown.

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is rapidly approaching Anderson Silva’s UFC record for most title defenses in UFC history. Johnson is currently set to fight Wilson Reis in a highly anticipated showdown this weekend, where he will move one step closer to breaking Silva’s record. With a win, Johnson will tie Silva’s record, however the flyweight champion has long stated that his goal is to break Silva’s record. UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt revealed in a recent interview that if Johnson emerged successful against Reis, he would drop to flyweight to force Johnson to earn the record.

Late last month, UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt suggested that, if he’s able to defend his crown against rival TJ Dillashaw later this year, he’d next like to drop down to flyweight to try to foil Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson’s history-making 11th title defense. “I’d rather go down [to flyweight] before I go up [to featherweight]” the bantamweight champ told Onnit CEO Audrey Marcus (via MMAJunkie.com). “Demetrious has a fight with Wilson Reis in the not too distant future that’s coming up. He’ll tie Anderson Silva’s record, then his next fight would be the all-time record. He’s going for the huge record. Make him earn it [by fighting me].”

Over the last few months, UFC welterweight titleholder Tyron Woodley has generated some controversy among fans by suggesting that he deals with racism, even as a UFC champion. “If you look at the history of our sport – and it’s not even our sport, the history of the American culture – certain things are subliminally embraced that are racist,” Woodley said on a January episode of The MMA Hour. “When you say to me ‘Tyron, you are well spoken’, what does that mean? Does that mean I’m well spoken comparable to all the mixed martial artists, the 500 UFC fighters on the roster? Or does that mean as a black male in America?”

In July of 2016, Brazilian flyweight contender Wilson Reis was scheduled for a title fight with dominant divisional king Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Unfortunately, Mighty Mouse was then forced out of this fight with an injury, depriving Reis of his long-awaited shot at gold. In a brave display, Reis then agreed to take a high-risk, low-reward fight with the relatively unknown Hector Sandoval. When Reis won this fight, he expected to be rescheduled for a fight with the champion. Instead, however, he was paired with another relative unknown in Japan’s Ulka Sasaki, who he defeated by unanimous decision on UFC 208’s undercard.

To start the year, Mayweather made Conor McGregor and offer of $15 million to box him, which was quickly countered by UFC President Dana White, who offered Mayweather $25 million to take the fight against McGregor. It has now been three years since UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez shared the Octagon. The last time the pair met inside the Octagon, Johnson picked up a 1st round KO win to retain his title for the third time. That fight came just over a year after the pair had their first meeting in 2012, where Johnson picked up a split decision win to win the UFC flyweight championship. Now, in the midst of a 6-fight win streak that recently saw him pick up a split decision win over Henry Cejudo at the TUF 24 Finale in December, Benavidez is hopeful that he will be able to secure a trilogy fight with the flyweight champ.

With former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Jon “Bones” Jones currently serving a year-long suspension, MMA’s pound-for-pound debate has typically come down to one man: Flyweight champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. When Conor McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title in November, however, he made a strong case for a spot atop the pound-for-pound list, as he was already the champion at featherweight, and he had recently won a fight at welterweight against Nate Diaz. In the opinion of UFC President Dana White, McGregor’s recent multi-weight accomplishments make it impossible to deny his status as MMA’s pound-for-pound king. White explained this feeling in an interview on The Michael Kay Show (via MMAFighting.com).

Unfortunate news surfaced this week that UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson had injured his knee earlier this year during his 5-round war against Tim Elliot. In the opening round, Johnson was nearly submitted by the ‘TUF: Tournament of Champions’ winner, however over the course of the next four rounds, Johnson used his wrestling to dictate where the fight went, repeatedly taking Elliot down and controlling him on the ground, while looking for numerous submission attempts. Ultimately, after five hard-fought rounds, Johnson was awarded the unanimous decision win.

UFC flyweight champion continued his reign of dominance at last night’s TUF 24 Finale event in Las Vegas, scoring a unanimous decision victory over The Ultimate Fighter winner Tim Elliott in the evenings main event. The victory marked Johnson’s ninth straight title defense and improved his overall mixed martial arts record to a remarkable 25-2-1.

in the main event of the Ultimate Fighter season 24 Finale, Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson and TUF 24 winner Tim Elliot squared off in what turned out to be a spectacular fight. In the first round, Elliot left MMA fans stunned as he not only dropped the flyweight champ, but won the round with his unorthodox striking and impressive display of heart. Throughout rounds two through five however, the champ’s fight IQ showed as he repeatedly took the challenger down, controlling him and launching numerous submission attempts, all of which Elliot defended against.
