BJ Penn vs. Dennis Siver set for UFC 199

By Chris Taylor - April 12, 2016

Former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn (16-10-2) will return to the octagon this summer when he squares off with Dennis Siver (22-11 MMA) in a featherweight bout at June’s UFC 199 pay-per-view event in Inglewood, California.

UFC officials just made the announcement.

“The Prodigy” will return to the octagon for the first time since losing to Frankie Edgar in the main event of the ‘TUF 19 Finale’ in July of 2014. The UFC Hall of Famer is looking to make a run at the promotions featherweight title. Thirteen of Penn’s sixteen career victories have come by form of stoppage (submission/KO).

Meanwhile, Dennis Siver was last seen in action at June’s UFC Fight Night 69 event, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri. The 37-year-old has gone 3-3 with 1 no-contest over his past seven octagon appearances. Siver’s most recent win came over Charles Rosa via decision at UFC Fight Night 53.

UFC 199 takes place June 4 and is headlined by a middleweight title fight rematch featuring current champ Luke Rockhold defending his strap against former title holder Chris Weidman. In the evening’s co-main event, UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will defend his title against bitter rival Urijah Faber.
