Derrick Lewis comments on Greg Hardy’s deal with the UFC: I really don’t like guys like that
UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis has previously stated that he would love to punish former NFL star and MMA hopeful Greg Hardy for the infamous incident of domestic violence in his past.
Now, having knocked out Austen Lane on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, Hardy is signed with the UFC. The former football player was awarded a developmental contract with the promotion, and will probably debut with the promotion sometime in the near future.
Speaking on UFC Tonight on Wednesday night, Derrick Lewis commented on Greg Hardy’s move to the UFC.

“I think he looked good, but as soon as the fight ended, I started thinking about his [ex-girlfriend],” Lewis said on the show (via MMAJunkie). “I was like, I wonder if he had hit her like that.
“I don’t know, man,” Lewis continued. “I really don’t like guys like that because I grew up with a troubled past, and I saw my stepdad fight my mom just about every single day. I don’t even remember one day they didn’t go without arguing or fighting.”
Needless to say, Derrick Lewis would be happy to meet Greg Hardy in the Octagon in the future. He says Hardy’s troubling history would serve to motivate him to train harder.
“Of course, you know, I love fighting guys like that,” Lewis said. “I’m more motivated fighting guys like that. I was more motivated to fight Travis Browne whenever I did. So, I would like that matchup.”
For the moment, of course, Derrick Lewis is focused on showdown with his long-time rival Francis Ngannou, who he is set to battle on the main card of UFC 226 this July 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
