Chris Daukaus didn’t expect to be headlining a UFC event or fighting Derrick Lewis in his fifth UFC fight. Daukaus is set to face Lewis in the main event of UFC Vegas 45 and when he heard the news he was stoked. He does admit it caught him by surprise but he is now eager for the challenge.

UFC heavyweight Chris Daukaus reacted to his upcoming Derrick Lewis fight, saying that “I think he’s got more power than Francis Ngannou.” The Daukaus vs. Lewis fight was announced this past week by the UFC. The two heavyweights will go at it for five rounds or less in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card set for December 18. For Daukaus, it’s a well-deserved opportunity to fight a top-five ranked opponent after knocking out all four of his UFC foes so far. As for Lewis, following a one-sided loss to Ciryl Gane in his last fight, he needs to defend his No. 3 ranking now.

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, who got told by UFC president, Dana White, Lewis will face Daukaus on December 18, which will be a Fight Night card. It’s uncertain if it will be the main event or will just be a three-round fight on the main card.

Ngannou is the UFC heavyweight champion and he was initially unhappy that Dana White booked this interim title fight between Gane and Lewis for UFC 265 given that he just beat Stipe Miocic back in March to win the title. In any case, Ngannou knows that the winner of Gane vs. Lewis will be next up for the belt, and so he watched the fight on Saturday night. Before the fight started, he shared a video where he made the joke that Gane and Lewis were fighting not for a real UFC belt, but rather for the No. 2 contender spot in the UFC heavyweight rankings, since Miocic is still technically the No. 1 contender in the division.
