Dillon Danis responds to backlash from Al Iaquinta, Michael Bisping

By Tom Taylor - May 2, 2018

Dillon Danis, a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner and a training partner of Conor McGregor, has always received his fair-share of hate. Now that he’s made his successful MMA debut, a first-round submission of Kyle Walker at Bellator 198, the backlash that the brash BJJ player is receiving has surged to new heights.

Dillon Danis

One of the latest fighters to go after Danis is UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta, who recently came up short against Khabib Nurmagomedov in a last-minute lightweight title fight. Iaquinta dissed Danis on Twitter, saying that he hopes former Bellator lightweight champ Michael Chandler gets his hands on him.

The exchange began when Dillon reminded the world that inverting does, in fact, work in MMA.

“And they said inverting in MMA doesn’t work,” Danis said in a Tweet accompanied by a photo from his fight.

“Would love to see chandler invert this fucking [putz],” Iaquinta said in response to Danis’s Tweet.

“Hates gon hate,” Danis said in response to Iaquinta, evidently unfazed.

Danis also responded to the recent comments of former UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping, who referred to him as a Conor McGregor knock-off.

“Not only is he Conor McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach, he’s seeming to try to morph and copy McGregor’s antics,” Bisping said of Danis on his podcast. “Certainly his clothing. Conor does wear some fucking really nice, cool shit and Dillon Danis is like the poor, second-hand, overwashed, hand-me-down version because his clothes are fucking terrible. But, he’s trying to be Conor so hard, it’s laughable. He even said, ‘After this weekend, I will own Bellator.’ That sounds vaguely like a line where Conor said, ‘I will own boxing.’”

Having seen these comments from Bisping, Danis responded by referring to the former UFC middleweight champ as an “easy sub.”
