Dominick Cruz will enter this UFC 207 title fight having rebounded from an brutal stretch of injuries to reclaim the bantamweight crown from TJ Dillashaw in January of this year. Since reclaiming that title, Cruz has defended it once against long-time rival Urijah Faber, who he defeated via unanimous decision in the co-main event of June’s UFC 199.
Garbrandt, meanwhile, will step onto the canvas with a flawless 10-0 record. His five most recent wins have occured in the UFC, where he sandwiched a decision defeat of Enrique Brioles between thunderous knockouts of Marcus Brimage, Augusto Mendes, Thomas Almeida, and most recently, Takeya Mizugaki.
As anticipated as it is, Cruz and Garbrandt’s bantamweight title fight will not actually serve as UFC 207’s headliner. That honor will go to former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who will return to action after more than a year on the shelf to take on the division’s current ruler, Amanda Nunes.
Elsewhere on the UFC 207 lineup, we’ll see a rematch between former heavyweight champions Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum, and a flyweight clash between Hawaii’s Louis Smolka and New Mexico’s Ray Borg. The card will also include a whopping five welterweight bouts, featuring names like Johny Hendricks, Neil Magny, Matt Brown, Tarec Saffiedine, Mike Pyle, and Alex Garcia.
Who do you think will walk away the victor in UFC 207’s co-main event? Sound off, PENN Nation!
