Dominick Cruz praises rival Urijah Faber ahead of retirement
bjpenndotcom - December 17, 2016
Tonight in Sacramento, California, MMA veteran Urijah Faber will step into the Octagon for the final time as he faces Brad Picket in front of his hometown fans in the co-main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: Sacramento’. Ahead of the fight, the MMA community has continued to reflect on Faber’s iconic career, which dates back thirteen years. While Faber’s professional career goes back thirteen years, his rivalry with Dominick Cruz goes back nearly ten years, to a time when Faber reigned as the WEC featherweight champion. Faber defeated Cruz in the pair’s first meeting, however it was Cruz who won the next two fights, with the most recent one being a dominant unanimous decision win over Faber at UFC 199 in June.

The 5 best trash talkers in MMA today
Tom Taylor - December 16, 2016
Trash talk is as much a part of combat sports as punches and judging controversy. Not every fighter, however, is good at it. Try as they might, some people just can’t hang on the mic.

Dominick Cruz: Cody Garbrandt is like Shane Carwin, and we all saw what happened to him
Tom Taylor - December 7, 2016
On December 30, in the co-main event of UFC 207, bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will attempt to defend his title against the young Cody Garbrandt. In advance of this bantamweight title showdown, both fighters have pretty clear paths to victory. If Cruz wants to win, he’ll need to avoid Garbrandt’s fight-altering punching power and drag him into the later rounds where he might get tired and frustrated. If Garbrandt wants to score the upset, he needs to plant a bomb on Cruz’s chin early, and avoid a drawn-out war of attrition with the crafty champion.

Dominick Cruz on Cody Garbrandt: He's literally about as smart as a rock
Tom Taylor - December 5, 2016
On December 30, in the co-main event of UFC 207, bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will attempt to defend his title against dangerous undefeated striker Cody Garbrandt. It’s arguable, of course, that the shot should have instead been awarded to former champ TJ Dillashaw, but Cruz and Garbrandt’s sizzling beef was more than enough to convince the UFC that this was the fight to make. Cruz and Garbrandt’s beef has been slow-cooking for weeks, stewing in a base of trash talk and back-stage encounters. During an appearance on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Cruz discussed this beef with host Ariel Helwani, and weighed in on whether or not he’s gotten into Garbrandt’s head.

Cody Garbrandt wants to be named Fighter of the Year after he 'dismantles' Dominick Cruz
Tom Taylor - November 30, 2016
It’s been a banner year for undefeated bantamweight Cody Garbrandt. The 25-year-old kicked off 2016 with a first-round knockout of Augusto Mendes. Next up was another first-round KO, this time over the then undefeated Thomas Almeida. Then, in his most recent bout, Garbrandt delivered a 48-second knockout of gritty Japanese veteran Takeya Mizugaki. If Garbrandt is able to win his next fight, however, it will blow all these other impressive performances out of the water. His next fight is, after all, a championship bout with dominant bantamweight king Dominick Cruz. If Garbrandt caps off 2016 with a knockout of Cruz, he’ll have had one of the finest years imaginable in MMA. In fact, he thinks a defeat of Cruz would be more than enough to earn him 2016’s Fighter of the Year award.

Dominick Cruz explains why Cody Garbrandt got title shot, not TJ Dillashaw
bjpenndotcom - November 24, 2016
At UFC 207 on December 30th, UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will put his bantamweight strap on the line in the co-main event of the New Years Eve card as he steps into the Octagon against streaking undefeated bantamweight Cody Garbrandt. Garbrandt, who will be entering the bout on a 10-fight win streak that has seen him go 5-0 in the UFC, finishing all but one of his opponents as he has climbed to the #5 spot on the UFC’s official bantamweight rankings. While there’s no denying Garbrandt is one of the most impressive bantamweights on the UFC roster right now, former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw was campaigning for a title shot before the UFC announced Garbrandt as the next contender, even going as far as to attempt to bet Cruz $100,000 on the fight.

Cody Garbrandt fires back at "busted up" Dominick Cruz
bjpenndotcom - October 29, 2016
UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is certainly one of the most underrated trash talkers in MMA. When Cruz was making his highly anticipated return to the Octagon in January against TJ Dillashaw, Cruz took his trash talk to an entirely new level when he began his verbal onslaught of the bantamweight champion. Ultimately, when the pair stepped into the Octagon, it was Cruz who emerged victorious as he reclaimed the bantamweight championship he never actually lost inside the Octagon.

TJ Dillashaw rips Dominick Cruz vs. Cody Garbrandt fight
bjpenndotcom - October 29, 2016
Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is coming off a big win over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 back in July, which returned him to the win column after dropping a controversial split decision to Dominick Cruz back in January of 2016 to lose the bantamweight championship. Following Dillashaw’s win over Assuncao, there was talk of whether or not he would get the next title shot at bantamweight, and secure himself a rematch with Cruz, however ultimately, the UFC opted to give the title shot to streaking bantamweight prospect Cody Garbrandt, who is an undefeated Team Alpha Male prospect. Garbrandt’s MMA record currently sits at 10-0, which includes a 5-0 run inside the Octagon. Throughout the course of his stint with the UFC, Garbrandt has finished all but one opponent via KO/TKO. The scrap between Cruz and Garbrandt is currently slated to take place at UFC 207 on December 30th, the UFC’s New Years Eve card.

TJ Dillashaw fires away at "powder puff champion" Dominick Cruz for picking opponents
Russell Ess - October 27, 2016
Current number one UFC ranked bantamweight TJ Dillashaw is more than upset over the recently announced bantamweight title fight between champion Dominick Cruz and number 6 UFC ranked contender Cody Garbrandt. Dillashaw is looking to rematch Cruz after the two fought a close five-round title fight at UFC Fight Night 81 back in January where Cruz walked away with the belt by judge’s split decision. Now with the bantamweight title fight between Cruz and Garbrandt taking place at UFC 207, Dillashaw is simply baffled seeing Cruz in the position he feels he should rightfully be in.

Cody Garbrandt Continues War of Words with "Little B*tch" Dominick Cruz
Tom Taylor - October 25, 2016
Yesterday afternoon, a long-rumored bantamweight title bout between champion Dominick Cruz and challenger Cody Garbrandt was made official. This hotly-anticipated showdown will serve as the main event of UFC 207, which will occur on December 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Garbrandt, of course, was not the only choice for the next crack at Cruz’s title. It could easily be argued that former champ TJ Dillashaw, Jimmie Rivera, Bryan Caraway or John Lineker deserved the shot instead.
