Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is one of the most active and exciting fighters that you see in the UFC.

After his impressive performance at UFC Fight Night 89 where he put Patrick Cote away in the third round of their welterweight bout, “Cowboy” made a comment during the post-fight press conference about his pay.

“That all sounds nice, but according to my pay, I don’t mean shit to the UFC,” Cerrone said during the press conference. “But we’ll see. I’ll talk to Dana after this, and see if we can figure that out.”

UFC President Dana White spoke on the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast and laid it out from his perspective.

“The kid looked great,” White said (transcribed by FOX Sports). “Never held a world title and made over $200 grand, co-main event, $900,000 gate, free TV.”

White said he and Cerrone talked about his complaint after the press conference.

“We’ve talked, me and Cerrone. He absolutely agreed. What he said to me is ‘I was half joking’. I love him. He looked phenomenal,” White said.

White went on to mention that Cerrone fell short in his biggest fights, last being the lightweight title fight against champion Rafael dos Anjos.

“The thing is with Cerrone — Cerrone is so inconsistent. Cerrone will come out and look like a world beater and then come out and get stopped in the first round by a body shot.”

White said that all the fighters obviously want to make the big dollars like superstars Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey, but it’s really up to their personal draw and fanbase that will ultimately get them those big paydays.

“Personally and professionally, I love “Cowboy” Cerrone. This day and age, every fighter on Earth, especially when you look at the money that Conor (McGregor), Ronda (Rousey) and some of these people are making out there, it gets crazy. Everybody wants to make a $1 million,” White said.

“Some people get there, some people don’t.”
