Donald Cerrone discusses retirement plans after UFC Singapore loss to Leon Edwards

Fan favorite welterweight contender Donald Cerrone has fallen into a bit of a rough patch, having lost 4 of his last five fights. That said, it sounds like there’s still plenty more “Cowboy” to come.

Shortly after his latest loss, a Saturday decision defeat courtesy of Leon Edwards, Cerrone updated on his retirement plans, explaining that he’ll fight until the UFC sits him down for “the talk.”

”[I want to fight] at least five more years, definitely,” he said at the UFC Singapore post-fight press conference (transcribed by Ryan Harkness for MMAMania). “At least! Until the UFC says, ‘No more.’ I’m getting old in this sport, and I’m loving every minute of it. But maybe the new kids are coming in. Maybe they’re not, I don’t know. There sure are tough guys out there, man. And there’s not enough people like me out there that give these young guys a chance. So I’m glad I can be the guy that says ‘Man, I’ll fight any of you guys.’”

”I’m going to go until the UFC says ‘Cowboy, enough, bro. Enough, enough, enough!’ I’m going to stay here and keep fighting until they tell me I can’t any more. Until the kids just wash me down. But this old dog still got a lot in me, I stood there five rounds and gave it hell, man, with a smile on my face.”

In his last five fights, Cerrone has been knocked out by Jorge Masvidal, defeated by Robbie Lawler via decision, knocked out by Darren Till, and now, defeated by Leon Edwards by decision. His lone win in that stretch was a December knockout of Yancy Medeiros, which occurred in the first round.
