Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has earned the reputation as a complete badass, and sometimes has even caused UFC President Dana White headaches when he goes rock climbing or wake-boarding during fight week. Cowboy posted a photo on Instagram of himself in the cockpit of a plane while rocking a Monster helmet. He then went straight from flying to the gym.

When Tony Ferguson pulled out of the UFC on FOX 19 main event fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, it surely looked like Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone would be stepping in to fight Nurmagomedov on short notice despite having a fight with Patrick Cote booked in June. The UFC surprised everyone when they announced that Nurmagomedov would welcome reigning CFCC lightweight champion Darrell Horcher to the Octagon in his UFC debut.

After Tony Ferguson withdrew from his UFC on FOX 19 headlining scrap with Khabib Nurmagomedov, there was much speculation as to who, if anyone, would step in on short notice to fight ‘The Eagle’. Unsurprisingly, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone was quick to step up and offer to fight Nurmagomedov, however shortly after the UFC booked the bout, Cerrone reportedly injured a rib according to Khabib. Cerrone then took to Twitter to announce that he is not injured, which prompted Khabib to show his signed contract.

Of course, there was concern that the UFC wouldn’t be able to find someone willing to step in on such short notice to fight Nurmagomedov, however the one and only Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has thrown his name into the mix of potential short-notice opponents for ‘The Eagle’.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor had a long list of opponents ready to fight him after the lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of their bout due to an injury. McGregor ended up taking on more than he could handle when he ended up fighting Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 196 in a non-title welterweight bout. Diaz was able to secure a rear-naked choke submitting McGregor in the second round. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was one opponent that was game and ready to step in as a late replacement for the injured UFC lightweight champion but didn’t get the opportunity to showcase what he had for “The Notorious.”

It looks like Cerrone will be facing Canadian star Patrick Cote in Ottawa Ontario, Canada June 18. Yesterday after Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from his UFC 196 title fight against Conor McGregor, many top ranked fighters were scrambling to get the vacant spot opposite McGregor. For a while it seemed as though fan-favorite fighter Donald Cowboy Cerrone would get the fight. Cerrone hit the gym to start cutting weight and was just waiting on the official call from the UFC.
