On Saturday night in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 26, Cerrone suffered a first-round TKO loss to Alex Morono. “Cowboy” was supposed to face Diego Sanchez, but after the TUF 1 winner was released, Morono stepped up on short notice and got the win.

UFC welterweight legend Donald Cerrone reacted to his first-round TKO loss against Alex Morono at Saturday night’s UFC Vegas 26 event. Cerrone suffered his fifth loss in his last six fights after getting stopped with punches by Morono in the first round of Saturday’s co-main event. Morono took the fight on short notice after Diego Sanchez was pulled from the card, but as he told BJPenn.com’s Cole Shelton earlier in the week, he was in training alongside Fortis MMA fighters Diego Ferreira and Geoff Neal for this particular card. Morono was clearly in fight shape and ready to go as he came out storming from the opening bell and stopped Cerrone with punches in the first.

Morono (19-7 MMA) had taken the fight on short-notice, this after Cerrone’s originally scheduled opponent Diego Sanchez was handed his walking papers from the promotion just weeks prior to the event.

UFC welterweight legend Donald Cerrone said that when UFC president Dana White suggested he should retire from MMA, he was “hurt.” Cerrone returns to the Octagon this Saturday night at UFC Vegas 26 when he meets Alex Morono in the co-main event of the evening. Cerrone was originally set to fight Diego Sanchez in what was potentially a retirement fight for both men. Instead, Sanchez was pulled from the card after the UFC released him and replaced him with Morono. For Cerrone, this fight against Morono represents an opportunity to snap a five-fight winless skid, a bad streak that temporarily had White suggesting that he Cerrone might retire.

For the past couple of fights, Sanchez has just had Fabia in his corner, and many criticized the move. Then, late last week, it was revealed Sanchez was out of the fight and Morono got the call asking if he was still open to filing in and he jumped at the chance to fight a legend in “Cowboy.”

UFC superstar Conor McGregor revealed that UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cowboy has been confirmed as the highest-selling UFC pay-per-view of 2020. Initially, it appeared that UFC 251: Usman vs. Masvidal was the highest-selling PPV at 1.3 million buys. However, McGregor posted a photo on his social media on Monday showing a letter from the UFC indicating that UFC 246 sold 1,353,429 PPVs, which means it would edge out the 1.3 million number that UFC 251 did. McGregor, ever the salesman, took to his Twitter to share the news that he and Cerrone are the highest-selling PPV of the year.
