EXCLUSIVE | Douglas Lima hoping to avenge loss to Rory MacDonald, but also keen to fight 'new face' in Grand Prix final
Tom Taylor - September 26, 2018
In his last fight, which went down January, Douglas Lima surrendered the Bellator welterweight title to reigning champion Rory MacDonald, losing a close decision to the Canadian. So long as he performs well in his upcoming Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix matchups, starting with his Bellator 206, scrap with Andrey Koreshkov, Lima could easily have the chance to reclaim the title from MacDonald in the near future. If Douglas Lima gets this chance, he will apply the lessons he learned from his first with MacDonald to their second fight. The key takeaway from this first fight, he says, is that he needs to continue fighting ferociously for the bout’s duration. In hindsight, he feels he let his foot off the gas a little too much in the latter phases of the first fight.

Douglas Lima explains why he deserves immediate rematch with Rory MacDonald
Tom Taylor - January 31, 2018
On January 20, in the co-main event of the absolutely stacked Bellator 192, former UFC welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald captured the Bellator welterweight title with a fun, and very competitive decision win over the dangerous Douglas Lima. While MacDonald’s win was certainly impressive, not everyone agreed with it. In the eyes of some fans, Lima should have been awarded the win based on the fact that he clearly did more damage over the course of the five-round war, battering MacDonald’s face, and brutalizing his leg with kicks.
Douglas Lima shares main regret about fight with Rory MacDonald
Tom Taylor - January 25, 2018
Douglas Lima is no longer the Bellator welterweight champion. That distinction now belongs to Rory MacDonald, who beat him with a competitive decision in the co-main event of last Saturday’s Bellator 192 card. Now several days removed from his loss to MacDonald, Douglas Lima has some significant regrets about how it all went down. Most notably, he feels he didn’t fight with enough desperation in the crucial fifth round of a very close fight.
Rory MacDonald Refutes 'Completely False' Reports of His Long Suspension
Justin Golightly - January 24, 2018
It should be no surprise to anyone that Rory MacDonald and Douglas Lima had an absolute war at Bellator 192. The damage inflicted by both men was something to behold. Attention after the fight was over was drawn towards MacDonalds severely swollen leg and possible injuries he may have endured on his grueling battle towards winning the Bellator welterweight title. Reports were released containing all the medical suspensions from Bellator 192, which stated the former UFC fighter would be out for at least six months. However, Rory MacDonald just took to social media to dismiss this news. “There are reports of me being suspended for a lengthy amount of time due to fractures in one of my hands and my leg. This is completely false. I never injured my hand at all and my left leg is not fractured, I did an X-Ray the night of fight and showed it is only a hematoma.” — Rory MacDonald today on Twitter.
VIDEO | Rory MacDonald Says Douglas Lima Inflicted the Worst Pain He's Ever Felt
Justin Golightly - January 23, 2018
Rory MacDonald has a reputation that transcends organizations. He is known for being violent and absorbing punishment. His legendary fight with Robbie Lawler at UFC 189 cemented MacDonald and his opponent as warriors in a completely different dimension of pain management. MacDonald ended up with injuries in that war that would haunt him for years. Despite the damage scale being off the charts, a new level was reached in his fight with Douglas Lima at Bellator 192. Rory MacDonald admitted that it was probably the worst pain he’s ever felt in his life. “Yeah, [I thought about given up] a few times. It went through my head, but I just kept pushing through it. I had to dig deep a few times and just break down some mental barriers and keep pushing. Any fight that I’ve had to endure a lot of punishment and keep going forward, yeah. Your mind always plays tricks on you and wants you to give in and it’s just being disciplined and being able to push through those doubts and anxieties. […] I knew [Douglas Lima] was good at leg kicks. I didn’t expect the low leg kicks to be problem, but they were fast and powerful. I wasn’t able to block them very well. After the first one, I knew I didn’t want to get hit with another one. And in the first round I was already pretty hurt by them. By the third, I was struggling pretty badly with it.”

In the co-main event of this stacked card, Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima attempted to defend his title against his fiercest adversary to date: former UFC welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald. Round one began with MacDonald controlling the distance, backing the champion up with jabs and a head-kick. Midway through the first round the Canadian completed a takedown. From there, he sat in Lima’s guard, raining down ground-and-pound, but eating a few shots from the bottom in the process. Eventually, the referee stood the pair up with 10 seconds left in the round, but both survived to the bell.
Douglas Lima Not Shying Away From Exploiting Rory MacDonald's Weakness
Justin Golightly - January 19, 2018
There are some huge fights tomorrow. Two giant title fights are perched atop UFC 220 which goes down in Boston, but Bellator’s title fight is just as big. Former UFC welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald gets his shot at Bellator gold against belt-holder Douglas Lima. MacDonald has a chance to accomplish something he was never able to pull off in the UFC, but Lima is there to try and stop him every step of the way. Even if that means targeting a body part that has caused him problems since 2015’s Fight of the Year against Robbie Lawler. “At some point over 25 minutes, [Rory MacDonald]’s going to have to take those shots and I’m definitely curious to see how he handles it and how he’s going to react to that. I’m throwing everything with bad intentions. I’m going to try to finish him every second of the fight. I don’t want this fight to go to a decision. I want to make a statement and I want to take his head off. Let’s see if his nose has healed up. I’m definitely going to aim for that.”
