Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson reveals his past of wanting to fight in the UFC and who he wanted as a coach
Dwayne Johnson, who some may know better as “The Rock,” has been a long time fan of mixed martial arts and has even been one to show his backing and support for our very own BJ Penn.
Now one of the biggest actors in Hollywood, Johnson revealed on a recent episode of the UFC Unfiltered podcast that he was once considering a career in mixed martial arts.
“I thought, man, I achieved everything I wanted to achieve in WWE, my movie career is floundering a little bit, what do I do? … I thought, oh well maybe UFC,” Johnson said on UFC Unfiltered (transcribed by Muscle and Fitness).
“In my head, I felt like it was at least a two-year process for me to even get in the [cage], let alone the UFC. I wasn’t quite too sure what to do or what kind of people to put around me at the time, so the idea kind of fizzled out and I continued to stay on the path of movie making.”
With other big stars from professional wrestling that have transitioned to mixed martial arts having a big following such as Brock Lesnar and CM Punk, there is no doubt that “The Rock” would have had an army of fans cheering for him. However, there is one thing that Johnson said via Twitter that steered him away from the sport of MMA.
Johnson: Yup, I considered @ufc 10yrs ago. My goal was @GregJacksonMMA as my coach & 2 full yrs to train. Smartened up ’cause I prefer my jaw in tact
