Eddie Alvarez rips Conor Mcgregor and Nate Diaz for UFC 202
Last month, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and UFC superstar Nate Diaz competed in a highly anticipated welterweight rematch, where McGregor was able to avenge his UFC 196 submission loss to Diaz.
The fight is widely regarded by fans as one of the best fights of the year, in addition to one of the greatest MMA fights of all time. Despite that, UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez wasn’t impressed by either fighter.
Alvarez, who was campaigning pre-fight for his first title defense to be against the winner of the scrap, took aim at McGregor for spending an estimated $300,000 on his camp for the fight.
Alvarez spoke to MMAFighting to discuss the situation:
I was impressed by like about seven minutes of [UFC 202]. About the first seven minutes and then it all looked really sloppy and didn’t look of championship caliber to me. It didn’t look like a guy who spent $300,000 on a training camp. I could have did that shit for $5, what just went on there. I think he could have spent a lot less and got a lot more.”
Alvarez’ comments seem to mirror those of former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, who Alvarez defeated to claim the lightweight strap back in July.
dos Anjos stated that he felt both fighters looked sloppy in the fight, which lasted the full 5 rounds.
So far no word yet on who McGregor’s next fight will be against, but there have been reports of McGregor vs. Alvarez, for the lightweight title, being made official soon
