Exclusive | Yves Edwards Discloses Injury | Hopes To Return To Octagon Soon | UFC NEWS
By Evan Stoumbelis:
On this week’s edition of Just Scrap Radio, host Jens Pulver and guest co-host Abel Pulver discussed many things. From Marloes Coenen’s knowledge about Alistair Overeem’s PED use, to UFC 145 results and an interview with special guest, Yves Edwards. The self-proclaimed “Thug Jitsu Master” boasts a 41-18-1 record (9-6 UFC), with 17 of his wins coming by way of submission, and 15 of his wins coming by way of knockout including a devastating knockout against Josh Thomson at UFC 49. Most recently, Yves lost to Ultimate Fighter winner Tony Ferguson via unanimous decision during The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale on December 3rd.
During the course of the interview, Jens asked, “What’ve you been up to, and what do you have coming up? When’re we going to see an Yves Edwards sighting?”
Yves responded by saying, “Man, I want to get back in there so bad, you know, my last fight was December 3rd against Tony Ferguson, and I thought it was a lot better fight than the judges did. Not necessarily saying I think I should’ve won; I thought I did enough to win, but I can also see where you feel he did enough to win, but I don’t think it was 30-27. But I want to get back in there you know, I enjoy fighting these guys like that, you know, young guys that are going to push me, guys with a whole new skill set, and these kids have chins nowadays man! Like I’ve never kicked somebody in the head 3 times and had them look at me like I’m stupid. So I want to get back in there against tough guys like that; hopefully it’s going to be soon. Unfortunately I’m getting over an injury. I tore my bicep back in February, and I’m just getting through the end of my rehab now. Hoping I’ll be able to get back in the gym again at about 85-100% in the next 2 weeks, take 2 more weeks at that pace, and then just go all out again and go crazy, and hopefully I can get back in there maybe July or August and take somebody’s head off old school style.”
Yves was expected to face Donald Cerrone at UFC on Fuel TV in May, but his torn bicep forced him to withdraw from the fight.
