CHECKLIST! “Run through Bader, Call Out Jones In The Cage, And Become Champ” – Exclusive
Feuds are fun to watch play out. Especially in a sport like MMA where a feud can be settled in the ultimate way, one-on-one combat.
We are currently watching the Jose Aldo/Conor McGregor storyline play out but not to long ago we followed a bitter rivalry that lead to a great fight between two of the best light-heavyweight MMA fighters in the world. I’m talking about none other than Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier.
BJPENN.COM reporter Layzie The Savage recently spoke with D.C. about that fight and what it’s like now that it’s over. A lot of feuds that fans see in MMA usually end up being squashed after the fight, but according to D.C. nothing has changed between the two men.
“There is no relationship between Jon and I. He won, he won on January 3rd, but that’s pretty much all that happened. Nothing changed, nothing will change and we will fight again and we’ll make sure the results different.
“We were in one place together at the same time and we didn’t really talk or see each other or anything so it’s whatever. I don’t really have any desire to talk to him or try and end things or anything. I don’t really want to be around him because I don’t know what’s going to happen, honestly. I can’t say that I would not lose my sh*t if we were around each other.”
As for the fight itself? D.C. doesn’t buy into the idea of a loss being positive and says moving forward he knows what he needs to do to get a different outcome.
“There’s no positive in losing, that’s fake. When people tell you that, that’s a lie, they flat-out lie to you, there’s no positive in losing. There’s learning in losing. I feel like I’ve learned from that loss. I put a lot on myself to try to win that fight. When you feel like you can’t lose to someone there comes a lot of pressure. And I put a lot of pressure on myself. I’m not going to do that again. I’m not going to put the pressure that I did last time, it’s another fight. It doesn’t matter who it’s against, it doesn’t matter what it’s for, it’s just another fight.”
Cormier anticipates a quick rematch against the champ. He of course has a fight with Ryan Bader first, but doesn’t see that as much of an obstacle.
“Not very long, because I plan on mowing through [Ryan] Bader pretty good and I’m going to get back on that microphone and I’m going to scream at him [Jones] again and tell him ‘fight me again’. I said in that deal, this is a wrestling tournament, I’m that kid that’s always in the bracket and I mean that. He won the first match, this is only the first week, we have to wrestle again. This is the Big 12’s, there’s still the NCAA championships you know, this isn’t the end. We’re going to constantly be competing against each other. It’s only because him and I are too good to stay separated. There aren’t enough guys in that division to keep us from each other and we’ll continue to compete against each other.”
What do you guys think, are Cormier/Jones the Batman/Joker of MMA? Are they destined to go against each other for years to come? Sound off in the comments!
