BJ Penn releases quick statement, congratulates Yair Rodriguez
It was not the outcome that BJ Penn and his loyal fans were looking for on Sunday at UFC Fight Night 103 in Phoenix, Arizona.
The UFC Hall of Fame legend ended up losing to rising UFC star Yair Rodriguez in the main event of the evening in the second round as referee “Big” John McCarthy called a stop to the fight after Rodriguez dropped Penn for the first time in his career and followed up with a flurry of punches on the ground.
Penn gave the following statement congratulating his opponent on Monday to BJPenn.com after the loss:
“Congrats to Yair Rodriguez for a great performance, I had a great camp and great weight cut, no excuses.”
Penn, along with Randy Couture and most recently Conor McGregor are the only three fighters in history that have won UFC championship titles in two different weight classes.
