Cain Velasquez: ‘I Don’t Need To Talk, I’ll Show Werdum What I Can Do’
UFC heavyweight champion of the world Cain Velasquez is ready to go to war against the interim champion Fabricio Werdum, this Saturday in Mexico City.
The AKA fighter talked to our own Layzie The Savage about the fight itself and what threats his Brazilian opponent possess .
Do I think [Fabricio Werdum] is the most dangerous opponent right now? I think he is,” admitted Velasquez. “He definitely can be at times. In his last fight with Mark Hunt, he was losing the whole fight, I felt like, even on the ground. Out of nowhere, he threw that knee and knocked out Mark Hunt. So, it just shows that he is dangerous at all times. A guy that’s always getting better— a guy that does everything. He’s not just one dimensional. Not just punches. He punches, he kicks, he does a lot of spinning kicks, spinning backfists, and stuff like that. He throws a lot of stuff. A lot of good technique.”
Velasquez also discussed comments that his coach Javier Mendez made, saying that Cain will be able to do whatever he wants against Werdum. Velasquez said that he trusts his coach, but it’s just his opinion, as the champ doesn’t like to do a lot of talking before his fights.
“As far as Javier Mendez saying whatever I want to do out there I can do against Werdum, that’s just Javier’s opinion,” said Velasquez. “He’s the guy who trains me. He’s the guy that knows what I’m capable of. That’s just his opinion. That’s what we’re trained to do every time we go out there. We’re trained to go out there and beat people up. That’s it. Plain and simple. If that’s what he feels like what I’m going to do [against Werdum], then I’m going to try the best of my abilities to do that. I think all of us go out there and try to do the same thing. Again, one thing is to say it. Another thing is to go out there and actually do it. So, I don’t like to talk before the fights. I like to go out there and just show it. Show what I’m going to do to you.”
UFC 188 goes down this Saturday in Mexico City featuring a heavyweight title fight as the main event and a highly anticipated lightweight bout between Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez.
