Colby Covington calls ‘fake news’ on Kamaru Usman surgery

By Cole Shelton - May 24, 2019

Colby Covington has been waiting to get a shot at the welterweight title ever since he beat Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 to win the interim belt. It has been nearly a year since that fight, and Covington has stated he is ready to fight and is just waiting on the champion Kamaru Usman, who is recovering from injury.

However, Covington believes Usman is not even hurt, and that he didn’t even need surgery. Instead, he thinks the champion is faking injuries to avoid him.

“First off, let’s start off, Jason. Do you really f**king believe he had to get surgery and he needs all this f**king time?” Colby Covington asked host Jason Kindschy on a recent episode of BJPenn.com Radio. “This is the same tactics [Tyron] Woodley did. ‘Oh, my shoulder. Oh, I could fight Nate Diaz. I could fight a GSP. I’ll fight anybody, but I can’t fight Colby. I need time. I need to be healthy.’ He’s doing the same s**t. He is asking for guys that aren’t even ranked in the f**king top 10. He’s asking for money fights, but he’ll fight anybody else except me. Except, if he’s fighting me he needs this long training camp and this and that.

“Dude, he’s f**king fake news,” Covington continued. “That’s why he’s Marty Fake Newsman. He never got surgery. That’s the spoiler. I’m the king of spoilers. Spoiler alert. Kamaru Usman did not get surgery. It’s a fake injury. A fake excuse. He’s just trying to delay the inevitable. He knows what’s coming. He knows what’s in front of him now.

Colby Covington wants to end Kamaru Usman’s career

When Colby Covington does get his long-desired fight with Kamaru Usman, he intends to make it Usman’s last trip to the Octagon.

“Before, he was willing to f**king fight me,” Covington said of Usman. “He would say anything to attach his name to me. ‘Oh Blah, blah, blah. Oh, keep that energy up. I black out when I see Colby, I want to kill him, I want to punch his face. I want to punch a hole in his face, blah, blah, blah.’ Now, he’s f**king nowhere to be found. Now, he’s right in front of me and he’s got nothing to say anymore. He’s f**king trying to make up all these excuses. So, it’s completely fake news. You can’t believe anything that comes out of that guy’s mouth. It’s just a matter of time until I f**king end his career.”

It is safe to say Colby Covington doesn’t like Kamaru Usman. But, even his manager Dan Lambert told BJPenn.com that the UFC said this fight is next, 100 percent. So, Covington and Usman should be able to settle their differences soon.
