Colby Covington details backstage encounter with “bitch” Rafael Dos Anjos, calls out Cerrone/Lawler winner

Shortly after his dominant decision defeat of Dong Hyun Kim in Singapore, rising welterweight Colby Covington re-upped on his previous callout of Rafael Dos Anjos. The American Top Team staple also made a clever, post-fight callout of Neil Magny.

On the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio, however, Covington explained that he doesn’t think either man wants to fight him.

“I’m scaring the ink out of pens,” he said. “These guys don’t want to sign to fight me.”

Covington then explained that he’d prefer to fight Magny over Dos Anjos, and that a backstage encounter with Dos Anjos has him believing the former lightweight champ is scared to fight him.

“I’d prefer to fight Magny, just because he’s number five,” he said. “He’s up there, he’s closer to a title shot, but Rafael Dos Anjos is so juicy, just because of the name. The guy’s a bum, man. He’s old, he’s past his prime. I feel like that’s a good fight for me to get a Performance of the Night bonus against that guy. But he doesn’t want to fight, he’s scared. I was telling him back stage, right before the press conference, I was like ‘what’s up, you’re a bitch, you’re scared man, you don’t want to fight me.’ And he was like ‘oooh, ahh, you want that title shot?’ That’s all he could say to me. He’s scared man. He’s told the UFC he doesn’t want that fight. He doesn’t want anything to do to me. Rafael Dos Anjos, you’re a bitch.”

Outside of Magny and Dos Anjos, Covington explained that he’s also interested in a fight with the winner of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Robbie Lawler’s UFC 213 scrap.

“The Lawler/Cerrone winner,” he said. “I think that’d be an ideal matchup. If Condit’s still around… I don’t know if he’s too old and been through too many wars to come back, but if he wants to come back, I’d welcome that fight. I would love that fight. I dunno who else is up there. Maia’s getting a shot, Stephen Thompson is going to fight my boy Jorge [Masvidal]… so Magny, RDA, Lawler… I’d love to fight Lawler.”
