EXCLUSIVE | BJ Penn unveils all-star cornering team for Yair Rodriguez fight
UFC Hall of Fame legend BJ Penn makes his way back into the Octagon this Sunday at UFC Fight Night 103, which takes place in Phoenix, Arizona.
The former two-time, two-division UFC champion will take on rising UFC star Yair Rodrigez in the main event of the evening.
As fight week is already upon us, BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor was able to catch up with “The Prodigy” on Tuesday’s episode of Rapid Fire to get some information that will surely have Penn fans excited.
Taylor asked Penn, “Everyone wants to know, who will be in your corner this Sunday in Phoenix?”
Penn unveiled an all-star cornering team that he has been working with leading up to his return to the Octagon.
“Greg Jackson, Jason Parillo, Mike Winklejohn, and my brother Reagan Penn,” stated BJ.
As for how his weight cut to get down to 145 is going, Penn said that he is right on track to where he needs to be on January 15.
“Everything is going good. I am 155 pounds right now. I plan on maintaining that until I begin making the final cut late this week.”
Penn continued, “I feel good. I feel ready. Of course it has been a little while. Everything feels really brand new again. Of course I am anxious but I am also really ready.”
Penn last fought in July of 2014 in his first featherweight bout of his professional MMA career against a familiar opponent in Frankie Edgar, who won the fight by TKO in the third round. Penn will be looking to establish himself in the featherweight division with a win over Rodriguez with the ultimate goal of gaining a third UFC championship title in a third weight division, which has never been accomplished by any fighter in UFC history.
Yair Rodriguez is riding a seven-fight win streak and is coming off a split decision win over Alex Caceres at UFC Fight Night 92, which took place in August 2016.
