EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington to Tyron Woodley: ‘get out there and promote yourself’
Interim UFC welterweight champion, Colby Covington has had a feud going on with the current welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley for quite some time. Covington believes Woodley is ‘ducking him’ and faking injuries to get out of fighting him.
However, eventually, that fight will happen. The way the feud is going, it should be a good draw. At UFC 228, Woodley was the main event against Darren Till where it is reported the pay-per-view did about 130,000 buys. Something Covington knows was coming when Woodley was headlining the card.
“It’s another record in Tyron Woodley’s storied pathetic career. Not only does he have the least strikes thrown in a title fight in the history of the UFC. He now has one of the worst box office hits in the 25-year existence in the UFC,” said Covington on BJPENN radio. “Barely over 100,000 buys, it’s a f*cking complete joke. The guy is always claiming, ‘Oh no one likes me, it’s racism, oh Dana doesn’t promote me.’ Get out there and promote yourself, you lazy ass little bitch.
“What are you doing with your life man? You claim to be all about Jesus and all this family man and a role model. This and that but what are you doing with your life? You’re on TMZ, your movies age going straight to DVD, your album’s that you are trying to do, they aren’t even hitting the iTunes charts, that is a complete joke in itself, you are trying to be a little rapper now,” Covington continued. “The guy is a joke and that is why I am trying to be the people’s champion that is gonna end his career and take everything he worked for, and defend that belt as a real champion should.”
Many fighters have gone on record and said the UFC, as the promoter needs to promote better. But according to Covington, fighters need to promote themselves and their upcoming fights.
“I don’t need the f*cking UFC to promote me because I know how to promote myself. I know how to get out there and sell fights, he doesn’t know how to sell fights.”
What do you make of Covington’s comments?
