EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington: ‘I am the better version’ of Conor McGregor

The UFC’s biggest star is Conor McGregor, no question about it. The Irishman was the first-ever UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously. McGregor then got so big that he went to boxing to fight Floyd Mayweather.

However, that was not enough, as McGregor wanted to be considered the greatest of all-time so he came back to MMA after two years off. After two years, McGregor took on then 26-0 Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had never lost a round. Ultimately, McGregor lost the fight by submission.

Now, the UFC is looking for their next big pay-per-view king or queen. And according to interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington, they already have him.

“I’m the money fighter, I’m the new Conor McGregor,” said Covington on BJPENN Radio. “I am the better version of him, I can fight, I can talk, I can go when the fight gets tough. I am not gonna run away from a tough fight like he did against Nate Diaz.”

Covington’s first time on pay-per-view did approximately 250,000 buys, where he was the co-main event. Now, Covington has attracted a lot of attention for his support behind Donald Trump and calling himself the ‘people’s champ.’

The next fight for Covington would be against Tyron Woodley, but for Covington, he is already looking ahead.

“Yeah, we’ll welcome him back. Conor has expressed some interest in coming to Welterweight for a third belt, create history. So it is definitely something I see down the line,” added Covington. “The thing is, he is just playing with Woodley. He is not gonna take that fight because he knows Woodley would just leach off of him, he knows that Woodley’s a little bitch and he can’t even carry his own weight. Look at him he could barely do over 100,000 pay-per-view buys, well what good is that gonna do for Conor. That’s not gonna make Conor any money. I almost triple the Woodley’s pay-per-view buys on my first time, on pay-per-view selling the shows.

“I like what Conor’s doing but that fight is never gonna happen with him and Woodley. Because, like I said, Woodley doesn’t carry his own weight,” Covington continued. “He is a joke, he can’t sell fights, he is not a draw man, he is not a money fight, nobody gives a f*ck about him.”
